Hello everyone,
I am still new to this site but was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to generate some extra money as a student? Im currently studying Computer Science and currently have a job earning £16 per hour doing web SEO and programming but because of debts i have and the fact i only work about 10 hours a week i still struggle with money.
Does anyone either know of any online jobs in the Uk which aren't scams or perhaps ways to save with tax?
Sorry again if this is in the wrong area!
Dave.

Well i was on base rate for most of the year, but i also get very little help from student loans as my parents (who i dont talk to) earn alot of money.
Out of the £640 i pay tax so it brings it down to about £510. I have to pay a loan (which i took out before university) of £130 bringing it down to £382, pay for my food which is about £60 a month? down to 322, then i smoke (but im currently starting patches to give up) which costs £140 a month bring the total to £182, then i have to pay my accomidation which works out about £80 a month after the money i do get in burserys, leaving a grand total of £60 a month to live on.. which is swallowed up in bank charges..No Unapproved or Personal links in signatures please - FT30 -
After accomondation I live off £225 a month. This includes 2 phone bills (me and my gf), investing, food and drink and bills (gas elec and net)
Sort out a budget if I were you.
And just because you parents earn a lot it doesn't mean you get 'very little help' from student loans. You get the 75% amount which is £3385. This means in total you have to live off £9k a year which is easy.
I wouldn't start looking for another job until you have sorted out your money problems.
Also you are paying a lot of tax. Whats your tax code? It should be 603L. I suspect yours is BR?0 -
my tax code changed yesterday to 603L but was BR since september. I realise we do get money from the government but this month they are giving me £1,300 and my halls costs are £1,250 so that leaves me with £50.No Unapproved or Personal links in signatures please - FT30

Pop over to the debt free wannabes board and post your SOA. They will help you cut your outgoings and sort your debts too, as well as budget.
They're very helpful.0 -

Stop smoking, stop paying bank charges by handling your money better and get talking to your parents.0

Right a couple of things jumped out at me from what you have posted. You can get your overpaid tax back from the IR speak to them or someone in payroll and they will either add it to your payslip or give you a cheque.
Also you can write a letter to the student loans people and let them know that you have no contact with your parentys - if you give your local office a call they will let you know where to send it. This may mean that you are assessed as an independent student and therefore will receive more money.
Good Luck! There are many things in life that will catch your eye, only a few will catch your heart. Pursue those.0 -

What you're suggesting is fraud and I hope the OP treats it with the contempt it deserves!0
