I wasn't sure what to put for cost to rebuild house so I guessed at £500.000. The house is worth around 90-100 K

You may find that this is why Quidco was showing quotes of around £600 a year - £500,000 rebuild cost is huge. for a house of that value you're probably looking closer to £80,000 max depending on where you are in the country. I tend to go for policies that don't have a specific rebuild value but use a blanket indemnity basis, ie anything up to £x amount.

Are you sure you have the limits correct?
I have £240K rebuild value and £80K contents.
Your rebuild value in particular seems to be high.

I paid £440 and got £120 quidco cashback from lloyds.
That's quite expensive, but I've got high contents (£80K), high valuables (£5K single item limit) and personal possessions (£7.5K), so that's including a few optional elements.

There are a lot of options on home insurance and therefore a lot of variables e.g.
accidental damage (buildings), accidental damage (contents), valuatble limits, personal possisions limit, freezer cover, bicycles, legal, specified items etc.

Personally I think it's one of the most difficult to get right.

No-one can really tell you a good company as far a cost goes as it depends on circumstances, so you really need to use search facilites.

I've been happy with Lloyds tsb because I've had £120 cashback on car and £120 cashback on house. I also had a car claim with them and it was all fine. At one point I wanted to add people onto my car insurance and their quotes and admin fees were very reasonable so they didn't try to rip me off once I was a "captive audience".

I got a good quote of £173 from confused. My rebuild cost from using the calculator worked out at £125.500 and I am going to go for 40K contents as we don't have expensive items.

Barclays (who I am still with) online gave me £165 after cashback but the cover wasn't as good.

Does anyone bother with accidental damage for contents?

Emergency cover (they do it all for you) or is it better just to get to know the right people in the trade who you can call out?

Well, I phoned Barclays and asked if they can match my online quotes. They didn't want to know at all, even for their own online cheaper price with cashback. I eneded up canceling my account and re-signing with them online with £55 cashback. Mad isn't it :rotfl:
