car battery flat

it's probably that time of year.

I think it's a flat battery (don't ask me why I didn't join the RAC yesterday, I don't know)

It's not really turning over, so I've stuck my home charger onto it. question is, whilst it's displaying as charging, should it then have started once it was connected, or does it take time to charge up to a level?

or is it something else?

it was only in the garage last week for it's MOT!!!

We were in Halfords (rob dogs) buying a new battery for our Fiat yesterday!!

The cold weather saps the life out of a battery and if yours in on its last legs anyway the cold can kill them off. GIve it a good few hours charging then try to turn it over, you might find the same prob in the morning

No need for a battery for an MOT, but if not you need a starting handle. Point is the battery is not checked.

I think I'm just putting two and two together and coming up with five.

i.e. garage want business, therefore "create" a problem.

it's obviously just coincidence. pain in the backside though!!!

yeah you can jumpstart petrol-diesel and vice versa etc....just not a good idea trying to start a huge diesel with a tiny petrol car

spot on about the mot , its just a basic saftey check , not a service or refurbishment , and batterys often often fail overnight like that

id avoid halfords as theyre expensive for batterys

leave the charger on a good few hours 4-8 at least , you might blow the fuse if you tried to start it the instant it was conected

yeah possibly blown the charger fuse if you hooked it all up and tried to start the car ?

not the one in the main wall plug , theres usualy another inside it or in the leads to the battery

i think it's ok (although I'll check) as the lights are still on "charging"

makes a strange ticking noise when i turn it over. I tried when it was attached, and also without. Generally when I've had flat batteries, I get nothing at all.

would help if I wasn't looking after the kids today!!!
