disrupted connection

hi,
I am with BT for my BB. I have 1 pc in the lounge & a laptop coming off the hub, plus my daughter has a pc in her room. Hers is the problem. She conects thru the hub via a wireless adapter which goes into her usb port. However she gets cut off frequently so i wondered if getting her a different adapter would help? i have tried researching but cant get the right phrase into the search engine to get an answer ( 1 which i understand!) Her current adapter is small, inobtrusive but if a larger one with perhaps an antenna is better & would stop her getting cut off, then i will get one. Thanx in advance!

Depends on whats causing the disconnection. The first thing is to try changing channels on the hub, it could be that a neighbour is using the same or adjacent channel to yours. If you download netstumbler, it will tell you what other networks are close by and what channels they are using. The channels overlap so choose one that is as far away from any others as you can, ie if you can see someone using ch11, dont use 10, use 1.

If that dosent help, then it could be walls/floors that are blocking the signal, if you get a USB extension cable, you can move the USB adaptor around and try and get a better signal.

You could also try chaning the angle of the aerial on the hub.

The software with the adaptor should give some indication of signal strength to indicate if any of the above are working.

    Good luck

Definitely run netstumbler on the wireless pc, it will show what networks are nearby, anything on your channel will impact the performance of the wireless connection. I run it once a month to make sure no-one has decided to use the channel I am on.
