Can you tell if a number is on a certain network by looking at it? like from the code or something? would be useful for those who have free calls to certain networks

don't go there... this has been a problem since number portability came along and OFCOM as it was when I complained just ignored me. So any number could have been ported to any network.

To my mind you should on all networks be able to opt into a service where (if you have a tarriff that charges differently by network) it announced before charging you a higher rate.

sounds like a good idea - similar to the message Orange do when you dial a "freephone" number
  • Easiest way is to go into each of the mobile networks shops and say "is this one of your customers"? :)

However as has been mentioned, no good for numbers that have been ported across, as the database only knows the original network the number was assigned to.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!
(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)
