Potterton lockouts

Hello all

I have a potterton suprema 40 boiler which has been recently locking out and requiring a reset to get the heating going again. I changed the ignition electrode which i believe is also the flame detector on this model but the problem persists. I have actually witnessed the point of lockout. It happens on startup after 3 very fast consecutive ignition sparks.

I get the impression from searching the web that 99 times out of 100 its a dry solder joint on the pcb with these boilers but in my case the safety pressure/heat valve on the mains fed storage tank started passing at about the same time as these lockouts started occuring.
Does anyone know if these two faults could be connected?

Thanks in advance for any help
Jim

i bought my house a year ago and had the same problems with a potterton 50. i read up and found out the same info as you, i bought a second hand pcb board off ebay for £30 and fitted it myself, really easy and have never had a problem since.

Also there is a company in watford cant rememebr their name but they sell recon boards for around £60.

Try a different board and 99% chance that'll cure your problem.

It normally is the pcb on these boilers. We find that its cheaper for the customer to call out Potterton as although they charge a hefty call out fee, all parts are covered and as a new pcb is over £150 for these boilers, and the part and work is guaranteed. Also, if it turns out not to be the pcb Potterton will fit other parts within their call out charge. If you had bought the pcb yourself or via an engineer and it wasnt the pcb you would not be able to return it to the place of purchase, and that is a lot of money to waste.
