Company Car Tax hasn't arrived... What happens next??

Happy New Year to Everybody!!

I have a company car and the tax ran out last night 31/12/08, but i havent recieved my new disc in the post. I have work tomorrow and obviously i need my car. My work have told me they have sent it.

Does anyone know what will happen if im stopped for not displaying my tax disc even though it has been paid. As far as i am aware i can still recieve a fine, which my company will have to pay. Is that right?

Thanks All

All the best for 2009:beer:

You won't be able to drive the car on the road until you receive the tax disc. The fine (and any points if applicable) would be your responsibility - unless your employer pays.
  • dont get get a few days lee way, might be wrong, dont take my advice
  • I have bought mine on line and someone told me that as long as i show the payment printout i will be ok, due to the post etc.

    But maybe wrong..

If you bought the tax disc in advance of the expiry date i.e no later than yesterday then you can drive the vehicle for up to 5 working days from the date of expiry whilst you are waiting for the disc to arrive.

The law changed in September 2008 to allow this.

    So you won't be fined.

Even if the tax has expired, but the disc is bought online then the vehicle is allowed on the road for 5 working days.

And the law changed in July 2008.

What if the tax was purchased in a PO by the company/lease company and then it is in the post?

All the answers cover online purchase as far as I can see

The 5 day ruling only applies if your have bought your tax in advance of the expiry.

If tax expires 31st Dec and I bought tax disc on 31st Dec (by phone/online/trackable post) then I can drive vehicle for 5 working days until disc arrives.

If tax expires 31st Dec but I tax (by phone/online/trackable post) on Jan 1st then I cannot drive/keep on public highway until disc is received and displayed in vehicle.

The ruling came into force on September 1st - as shown in the link posted by sarahg1969

Then the vehicle cannot be used/kept on public highway til the disc has been displayed.
