Debt Relief Orders (DRO) - Information & help thread

Another 2 things pertinent to my situation. My partner lives quite some distance away from me (approx 50 miles) which affects how often I can see her, so moving in is really important to me.
I currently live in a privately owned house, which I claim housing benefit for. I mentioned to my landlady that "at some time I would be moving in with my fiance!" - and as a result - she's not renewing my tenancy when it runs out mid-October, so I'll have to move anyway (me and my big mouth!)
I'm quite confident in getting a job, even if it only pays £50/100 a week, it's £200/£400 I can contribute to the household. The only thing that will go against me, is my CV shows that's I've had some well paid jobs in the past, and the fact that I'm looking for such low paid work could look suspicious to prospective employers.
I think you have the potential to earn decent money, why settle for anything less? the long term benefits will far outweigh the benefits of a DRO over a DMP. if you use a credible DMP company should a DRO be revoked, they will make sure your household costs are more than met without leaving you short, and they would also allow to do the budget for just you, leaving your partner's money for her only0 -
Definately something to think about over the next 3 weeks. It's completely turned my plans on their head! Thank-you for your help everyone.0

Hi there,
I'm new to the forum and after some advice please. I have been advised to go for a debt relief order to clear my debts, I've been paying my dmp for years but it's still going to be a good few years before its cleared. I fit all the criteria for a dro but I live with my partner and he has a mortgage. Im not on the mortgage and I don't pay anything towards it or maintainence of the house. Would I be classed as having beneficial interest? We have two children together and this debt is from way before I met him.
Thanks in advance :-)0 -
If you dont pay towards the mortgage, have never paid into the deposit etc, and dont pay towards repairs or improvements then you do not have beneficial interest...0

Hi i would really love some advice. i completed a debt relief order earlier this year and was told by the woman from citizens advice not to make any more payments toward the debts. one of the debts was a gas bill with npower. I have a prepayment meter now and every week they take money off my meter for debt. is there anyway to stop this as Im struggling. Should i be paying money off the debt when it was included in the dro?0

Did they continue to take money towards the debt throughout your moratorium period? I had some debt with BG and once they had the information regarding the dro the debt was removed from the meter
You Definately need to contact them and find out what's going on as you are not liable for the debt if you completed the dro successfully:jEngaged 25/12/11 :j

Hello everybody! Im new here and very excted to join! :j
I sooo hope that someone can help me. (Im a little on the edge at the moment, so please forgive if I start shaking and crying unexpectedly:()
My DRO has been approved at the beginnig of Aug.this year, after long, miserable and exhausting years of financial stuggle. That cheered me up no end
. Just as I was about to believe I can sort it all...my wages went up:eek: by...£30 pe month! ( did not get pay rise fo 5yeas when i needed it, i got ot now..._party_ ) (its not a pay rise really, its just that I completed probation period, so i get £30.00 more/mnth) As my disposable was £29.0 upon submitting the application, with the "pay rise" it will go up to £59.00 which is over the £50.00 limit.
WHAT CAN I DO? Would they revoke DRO because of £9.00 excess??_pale_
Any solution? :think:What if I have more outgoings now? I need to get an Insuance for my kitten:heart2: It is £20.00/mnth annd it is an allowable expense which I did not have before...Would they recalculate taking it to consideration, or is it that the expenses need to remain the same for 1 year???
Guys, please share your knowledge on this one, cos if they revoke it im going straight to mental institution:mad:
Many thanks!0 -

Hi. You may hold the record for the most smileys ever in a first post!
Look, the simple answer here is to run this past your intermediary. Yes, if your disposable income is £59 per month, the DRO would be revoked. It's a shame they calculated your surplus as £29 and not £9 at the outset. Maybe there were things that should have been taken into account or put at a different amount.
