cant wait for next wednesday , it was quite a long appointment today, about an hour give or take...she wanted to make sure everything is in order ...cant thank you enough orville for all ur good advice...i cant believe it was only about 3 wks ago that i decided to go down this route....and by the way i finally plucked up the courage to phone up and get a balance on that old catalogue debt i was avoiding...they tried to make me give them my new address (just for their records ) yeah right...i just told them i was going to see the cab to get my finances in order and i will be in touch then...as soon as i mentioned the cab he was fine...said he would give me 30 days to get back in touch with them, so at least no more interest on that account..the only one im worried about really is my loan which is due to come out this friday, £50-00 so not sure what interest will go on that till next wednesday...the rest of them arn't due to be paid till after next wednesday so hopefully i should be ok with them.;)

well thats what i thought, and apparently thats what used to happen but i think they have been challenged in court over it and although they appealed a number of times they still lost in the end, and if i hadn't included it, it would have been seen as showing favour to one creditor.
  • Hi all. im wondering if anyone can help.

myself and my husband are looking to both apply for a DRO, i have today been getting paperwork and things sorted when i noiticed that both the cars we own, (both worth well under £1000) are registered in my name. will this stop me being able to apply for the DRO?? will it be seen as against the rules of the DRO if i just transfer one of the cars to my husband?

    I owe £10000 and my husband £7000

i really thought the DRO would save us, but if we cant do it i have no clue how i will keep going.

not really sure about this one..maybe orville will be along in a while to help out, but i would assume iff they are both in your name then that might cause a problem

I have read the question but have not replied because to be honest i do not know. I only answer if i am sure with what i say. My advice would be to wait for Fat, Immoral or WBA31 to answer as they work for the CAB.;)

I have just been granted a DRO one I included arrears to my Gas & Electric supplier, which I was paying off in installments arranged with Eon.

Can anyone tell me please what happens now do I just continue to pay for my usage and will they adjust my bill acordingly (we pay by monthly instalments of cash or online payment) we are not on a meter so no re-calibration is required as such.

Should I contact them or wait for Eon to contact me?

    Thanks

    :)

Hi - this isn't going to be a complete answer but (1) I think you need to find the approved intermediary who is going to act for you and run the whole situation past them.

And (2) the registered keeper is not necessarily the owner. Is there any evidence that one of you bought one car, the other the other?

my brother bought my car as a gift 2 years ago when he came into some money and my husbands car was purchased after his previous car was written off after a accident, so it was purchased with the insurance money. Other than the fact i drive one and he drives another i have no idea how to prove it.

i am off to the CAB in the morning, to hopefully get the ball rolling. many thanks for everyones replies.

You are right in that you no longer have to pay the arrears, only your usage. Eon will be written to, so depending how long it takes them to get the pack from the IS and process it, they may not know about your DRO for a week or two. I would ring them, give them your DRO number, and if they ask you to send a photocopy of your approval letter

You need to prove the purchases, as in who transferred the monies for each car, either with bank statements from the time or something like that.

If you cannot do it the issue falls into car and asset. From what i remember where I work (not CAB Orville, but a similar organisation) this came up and we believe the first car can be worth up to £1000, but a second vehicle can only be worth up to £300. but how all that is then fitted together within the DRO we don't know.

The simplest way of moving forward is to see if you can prove who bought each vehicle (ie by going back over bank statements). That way I would say one car is owned by your brother, and one by your husband.

Do not transfer any car into your husbands name as this may be deemed as "transferring of an asset" and the proof of purchase is a much simpler way round this for you
