Could someone in the know maybe Fatbelly or Immoral take a quick look at this thread i have started and maybe hlep with the question if they can.

    Many thanks.
  • I have been waiting since feb for my dro to go through. It should go through when the system is back on i've been told.
My problem is i'm a single mum to 2 boys and am in desperate need of a shower above the bath. I have to fill up the sink and have a wash daily because I can't have baths. As baby is too unsettled.
My question is, can I not apply for the grant at the job centre that is for household improvements? As obviously thats what it is going to be spent on? I really can't cope this way for another year. I would consider moving just to be able to have a shower. But even then i'd have no deposit. Thanks.

You have been waiting since Feb for it to go through..? jesus who has been dealing with it and why has it taken soooooo long..? As far as a budgeting loan or something like that goes i am pretty sure it won't affect a DRO espically if you are still within the £50 limit.
  • Tbh the shower would cost about £200-300 as my boiler isnt suitable. I tried just attaching to taps but its a rubbish boiler so doesnt work that way unless I get burnt one minute then frozen the next. My DRO has taken so long because of my name on a joint bank account. Took lots of stress and wasted phone calls but my name was finally taken off a month ago..where I checked all my details and signed for it to all go through.
But not paying any debts since Feb means lots of hassle from creditors and knocks at my door when I have a 2 year old and a 3 month old baby :(
When they say £50 left over per month, is this still the case if I got a loan for one main purpose and it was spent on that in the same month? eg, fitting a shower? I know it may be seen as a luxury maybe. But I do see it as an essential atm to being able to get clean etc.. doing it round the kids. As my youngest has colic, constipation and reflux so more than 5 minutes away means lots of screaming lol.

I am pretty sure you would be ok. I take it that if you did get the loan then you would be able to still stay within the £50 limit. If so i can't see them complaining.
  • yeah im sure theres 1 i can apply for where i state why i need it and how much it would cost. so then if dro asked i can show them how ive spent it. obv anything left would go on household stuff (very much doubt ill be able to find a cheaper quote). just unfortunate my landlord doesnt want to pay any of it lol.

How much of a loan are you looking for though..? i am pretty sure that you can't get a loan over £500 or if you do you have to let them know you are subject to the terms of a DRO.
  • ive been quoted a max of £300 for a shower to be fitted etc. so was going to apply for that.

Oh well you should be fine then i would have thought. My advice though is that if you are going to apply for a budgeting loan from the DWP which is interest free, apply for more then you need as they tend to give you less then what you ask for, exactly how much i can't say but if you look at some threads on here that is the general advice.
  • it says i can also apply for money towards me and my kids. can i state i want no more than £500? as it says they may give up to £1,500. i really dont want to mess up my dro. but if i can get help towards clothes for the kids that would help me so much
