Oh well....despite the "rave reviews" - still looking forward to having a watch of it myself.
Errr....little sidenote - one can just find food on the streets.....over the last month I've found: 2 lemons, 1 orange, 1 leek and a can of lager. Waste not - want not thinks me and I've put them all to good use.:D I've found cheese (wrapped I hasten to add) and a melon before now. So - it does happen.0 -
I quite liked the presenter, I remember him doing a programme on out of date food and he ate out of date stuff for 2 weeks. At least he acknowledged his skewed middle class view on homelessness and was quite self deprecating.

what interested me was that he said he was 'alone' but when he was in the derelict house a camera man clearly walked in to get the shot of him lying in his sleeping bag- people would be more comfortable helping a man who is being followed by a camera man, try doing the same experiment with a hidden camera. I was also intrigued that he had had 15mins internet time but after sometime away from the internet had recieved an e-mail, how???
the perfectly provided, perfect clothes in the recycling was good as well- I too would have been more interested in the camper van chap- he has obviously got the knack- and how many of us know a forraging expert??? and are allowed to light a fire in a public place???
overall disapointed with the show, I like Johnathon maitland but did not feel this show was an accurate representation.Duct tape is like the force. It has a light side, a dark side, and it holds the world together."

I think a programme by the ex-tv presenter who was found on hard times (sorry, cant remember who he was, from Brighton?) would have been very interesting - and give us an inside on how it REALLY is.Carolbee0

Gordon Prat-Brown wants to create jobs for all the unemployed this year... why doesnt he pay squads of workmen to renovate empty council property & make them into hostels for the homeless? There's loads of big empty buildings and mills around that are lying boarded up and just crumbling away. Thatt would give people work and fill a need.0

I once found a pack of butter & then a bit further on some chocolate swiss rolls. Unfortunately I was in the co-op carpark at the time & I spotted a lady loading her car with shopping with things falling out all over the place!! I did the honest thing & gave them back to her.:D0 -
Hi Yes I watched this programme as well last night. I was impressed by the man who had opted out and lives a camper van.Do a little kindness every day.;)0

I found £85 sticking out a cash machine a few months ago. So it is possible to find stuff. Although I didn't get to keep it, as a very worried young lad turned up a few minutes later and a few questions settled the matter.
There is often odd bits of fruit and veg scattered around the market when it closes, but it doesn't look very edible (perhaps if I was hungry enough).
Lots of chips scattered around the pavement at nights.
I was very sceptical about the bin raiding. The only supermarket bins I can see in my area (I checked after a similar programme), are at Tescos and they are protected by a perimeter fence that would put Colditz to shame.
Similarly scavenging the bicycle, you can buy them from our tip, but no freebies. And electrical items are always scrapped and never sold.
I thought the Hawthorn jelly was interesting, I didn't realise you could eat the berries, will have to investigate further.
As for the rest of the show, the presenter will have team of researchers and goffers, which is how he "hears" about things. Not very likely for your average homeless person.
If I was suddenly made homeless I wouldn't know where to go.0 -
