Oh yeah, and it's 7 weeks for me today. I lost track of the day!:T0

Fell at first post last week. Feeling sorry for myself I bought 10..........back on horse.....DC.

I was exactly the same as Different_Corner, was mega stressed trying to get my final piece of coursework finished and submitted on time and ended up buying a 10 deck, that 10 deck turned in to a 20 deck and before I knew it I was staring failure in the face after the first day!
I have picked myself up again, smoked my last cigarette at about half past one this afternoon.
I have decided that I am probably going to need some kind of nicotine replacement though, if I had it last week I probably wouldn't have folded so easily, so I have just been to the supermarket, and bought mint lozenges (own brand to save money) I was starting to feel like I needed a smoke, and am happy to say despite tasting absolutely rotten.... the desire to smoke has definitely passed!
onwards and upwards from hereProud to be dealing with my debts

Although I am still on patches I do sometimes fancy a bit of backup and chew half a tab of nic gum. This does the trick for me. I will try anything to avoid the dreaded ciggies.0

Those first few days can be really tough Bruce Wayne and Different Corner. Just never give up trying, that's all I can say really. I must be on my 20th quit now!
I used to cave in after three days - really when the tobacco had left my body, but my psychological attatchment was so strong, that it would over ride my physical need anyway.
I don't get many triggers these days, but I do struggle with not replacing smoking with eating. I fell off my no-chocolate wagon big time today, but it was accompanied by a kind of decision to let myself have it too.
Anyway all you quitters and would be quitters, keep going. You will surely reach your goal when you are ready. Trouble is nicotine is such a strong foe in the early days that it can be so easy to give in to it's nagging. I speak from vast experience!;)Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01

thanks for that larmy16, I too am on about my 20th quit attempt, the crazy thing is I managed it once before, stopped for a solid 18 months so I do know I can do it, its like you say the psychological attachment is the hardest thing to overcome.
have to say guys these lozenges are easy the most disgusting things I have ever tasted, so I keep telling myself if you think this is bad, why are you addicted to nicotine/smoking you fool!!
9 hours since I last smoked, I am taking each passing hour as a small achievement in itself, and will hopefully build that up to days and weeks soon enough, until I stop thinking about it completelyProud to be dealing with my debts

I'm on day four - still haven't touched a cigarette. Though wierdly enough this time i haven't had many cravings. Still haven't been to the pub though. I keep putting it off though, that is going to be really hard. And seeing all my friends from home that ALL smoke.£11,000 in 2011 = £71.740

Oh one thing that i felt disapointed with was the fact that still smell of smoke due to my father smoking. I was really proud of not smoking for two days and actually attempting to give it up to someone i know (she has been nagging me for as long as i've been smoking) but she could still smell the smoke on me.£11,000 in 2011 = £71.740

I know how hard it would have been for me in the old days when you could sit puffing in the pub, not now though, when you have to go outside in the freezing cold!
Maybe that will be an incentive to you Pixie. Well done by the way.Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01

That's the way to view it Bruce - and very well done with what you've achieved! :T As Larmy says, never give up giving up, you either DC!!
Bad luck about falling off the choccy wagon Larmy, I can understand that one, though HAVE to keep off it completely or I'd be having it all the time and I won't let myself do that or I'd get BIG!!!
Well done Irish! ...and if half a tab of nicotine gum serves the purpose then keep it up for now as it's a darn sight better than the alternative!!!
I hope it all worked out for you with the drinks and no smoking ggg, another fellow ex-smoker with you will have been good for you both! I went to a friend's Birthday party on Saturday night and it was fantastic.:j Among over 100 guests there were seven of us old school friends, but only 2 still smoke out of 6 that had done for most of our lives which was wonderful news! The other 2 were really frozen each time they came back in! I did feel sorry for them and couldn't help but think of everyone here - and how WELL you're all doing!!
Well done on staying free for 4 days greenpixie!! :T You've done so very well, especially having family members at home that still smoke. It's a real shame about you still smelling of smoke due to your Dad's cigs though. Still, it just goes to show how strong you're staying to keep free from cigs yourself, great news!
All the very best to EVERYONE as you all continue on your journeys. Keep strong, eat plenty of fruit and take plenty of exercise to help you get through. You'll be so very thankful that you did soon enough!!! :j
