4yrs today (the day after my birthday) I`d just been admitted to hospital with my second esophageal bleed caused through liver cirrohsis and finally realised alcohol and me were finished because it had nearly finished me.
My best wishes to everyone who is in the process of giving up or at least cutting down on alcohol, its not easy I know but please persevere :T
  • fedupandskint, your signature makes me feel faint, are you really doing all of those things at once? Still haven't had a drink and when home have found myself picking things off the floor and clearing out cupboards as a distraction from popping down to the corner shop for some beer or wine so it's looking a bit less like landfill (never bother normally...hmm....*lightbulb*). Am also finding myself counting the AF days so far in my head rather manically (Thursday1, Friday2, Saturday3...etc.) countless times per day, hope that stops soon, it's driving me a bit nuts. Other than that, sleeping a bit more normally (i.e. not waking up on sofa at 2am fully dressed), eating like a horse, mood pretty good so am confident of 8/8, if I can get through the last episode of 'Dead Set' without (it's very bl**dy scary!). Really fancy a pint, tho', dammit.

    ...nothing to see here...
  • thanks for the all the messages and cakes:beer:

I have decided to be AF. I will not be giving alcohol up permanently. I don't need to do that but did need a readjustment of my habits which had got out of hand after my Mum died. I am hopeful January will do that, but I will have to wait and see how February goes.

My plan is now to go for 31/31 in January and then open the door in February but to drink much less often, and, when I do, not to drink as much.

Thanks to all for the advice. It is very much appreciated.:T

Yup, I'm doing all of these things and it's not that hard work now, not all the time at least! :D

I started off with the £2 savers club to learn how to save for a change, then I discovered the 100 day challenge which was my own personal lightbulb challenge believe me, my house looked like Harvey Nicks beauty dept thanks to my QVC addiction.

I have found this v.difficult on some days and not on others but I am 38 days in now out of 100 and am v.proud of this as it is the longest I have abstained in years from buying beauty products and more latterly QVC.

    This makes me V.happy!:D

As a result of all this ridiculous shopping I have done I need to stay within a budget and reign my spending in, hence the Grocery Challenge, £100 on clothes for the year and £10 a day challenges.

I am enjoying all of the challenges, and it is only as result of the MS forum that I have made these changes to my spending patterns especially this one and the OS forum. :rotfl: :T :A

This is my latest, the AF one, haven't set an AF month but might do for next month. It is nice to keep a track of things and set little targets for myself to achieve. Little steps make progress all the same ;)

TRC - Have a good birthday you will know in yourself where or not you will be able to drink occassionally or not at all.

I am really struggling tonight, this is my normal time for opening the wine and the first time this week that i am really missing it just as well there is none in the house or I think it will be even harder for me.

Nice to read the discussion/debate earlier, i'm sitting on the fence I think all opinions can count whatever they are if they get each of us to think what our own opinions/views are and then get us to act upon them.
  • Thanks for the warm welcome :D

I'm eating well too - and actually enjoying food and looking forward to meals. I've lost count of the number of meals I've cooked, only to leave them half touched because the wine is calling! Then after I've thrown a healthy dinner away, an hour later I'd be picking on rubbish to soak up the booze!

This is a nice drink: Lots of ice, worcester sauce, a touch of tobasco sauce and a thick wedge of lemon. Then pour over loads of tomato juice - A Virgin Mary;) - it lasts ages and just has a bit of kick to it!

Now is my trigger time - thinking about dinner and chilling, but I'm determined to resist temptation!
