Best of luck with your move, Moliere, and I hope that you enjoy living as opposed to visiting in France. Hope that our OH enjoys working there and that your writing continues as well. We all look forward to reading your updates from abroad!
As to the updates, I am so impressed with the way that your idea has taken off, and the amount that is being made by so many people! Would it help you to attach the updates to the start of the thread? That way you could just alter the post rather than reposting it, we would all know where it was in order to check progress, and hopefully it would be less work for you as well.

Hi and thanks for all the good wishes for my future into the almost unknown!

Seakay - right up until the start of this year, I used to add the updates to the very first post on here but it got so long (because of everyone's stupendous efforts) that the whole post was too long and wouldn't submit due to too many characters! I had to keep editing to remove bits to make it fit! What I can do, though, is edit the first post and just add the final bit - the running totals.

I've tried to make the process as simple as possible. I now update just once a day, at the same time of day (early in the morning - as long as I don't oversleep!). I just copy and paste the latest update and put it into a new post, then add everyone's items to their name, then update the running total at the end. I've also typed up a list of all the items we make for me to work on in the mornings. I find I get confused easily and get people's individual totals wrong, which is as annoying for me as it must be for them!

It helps that a lot of people update their own sigs so a quick glance at them can help me get their figures right!

Maytaurus has helped enormously by putting all the links (she finds loads for us) into one place that we can just click into. That has helped save space in other posts and keeps us well supplied with patterns, tips and lots of other goodies.

I, too, am impressed at how such a simple idea took off and how generous everyone is with their time and materials. It has taken my breath away and I never imagined it would grow the way it has! It's very rewarding, but the updating process is a work in progress at the moment!

DPixie - we are about two hours north of Toulouse so about three hours drive from you. I hope your plans work out! When we were house-hunting, we were actually on our way to L'isle de Jordain to look for property, but came across Parthenay and fell in love with it instantly!

Well, I have visitors due at 11am and I have to make the house look as if we own a vacuum cleaner and some dusters!

    See you all later.

Hi Mioliere, just read your updating task description. Do you have a spreadsheet program? I used to develop spreadsheets for work & I miss the brain exercise - I fancy trying to build one which may help you in your task if it would be any use. I may do it anyway - just for fun - its the sort of challenge I really miss (now isnt that SAD:rotfl:).

    Back to the washing up;)

Prfungi - thanks for the offer. I have Excel but don't know how good I'd be at making up a program. If you don't mind, it would be great if you could do one! I'm sure it would help a great deal.

    Hi Moliere,

goody goody - I will have a play - Excel is fine - I have that and Lotus.

It will take me a while to build and then to test I'm really looking forward to it. Having something like that to do will make me organise my days a little better than I do now.

    regards

Thanks, Pam - I'm glad you are looking forward to it! I'm in the dark about things like that, I'm afraid, so it's good to have an expert to do it!

I've done one row of crochet so far today, so I really must get a wiggle on. The trouble is the sun is shining so we've been tidying up the garden. I think I'll sit down for an hour now - I don't even have to worry about the dinner. DH is doing one of his famous, and delicious, omelettes (one of the few meals he can cook!)

Hope you're all having a great day.

  • hello fellow knitters
I was looking forward to making some squares for OEC and then got a note to say that they are no longer accepting squares. I found a Soweto charity in the list that wants 8inch squares, so i am making the first one now on the knitting machine.
My problem is that most of my wool is 4 ply shetland, so not suitable for babies, and most of the patterns that I can find seem to be for DK. I could work out how to do an innocent smoothie hat in 4 ply (ie I could do the sums). I wonder if anyone else has worked this out, and if anyone can confirm that they will accept 4ply hats.

    cheers

  • Hi all, no knitting or crocheting or even sewing to report, BUT I have found an absolute gem of a lady and hour and a half away from me to teach me how to use the knitting machine, I am so pleased I could burst with joy!

I was up at the crack of dawn yesterday and had made a loaf and some soup to take, prior to lighting out for her place - with what seemed like a million questions in the shorthand book, plus a load of sample stuff I wanted help on. Apart from the half hour we had off for lunch, we were at it all day stopping eventually at 6.30pm. Got in and had a couple of glasses of wine and some grub then tried reading through all the notes I had taken. I took loads of photo's of things she showed me - I might even manage baby blankets with edges...........I say might, as I haven't tried anything solo yet.

I came away with heaps of patterns and little tips and tricks, oh it was a truly wonderful day and although I eded the evening with a migrane (I fear the red with and the cheese sandwich at home might have had something to do with that) it was a very worthwhile day.....................AND she said I could go again, RESULT or what? So I shall be trying out a few things over the next couple of days and see what I can achieve. Given up on the hunt for knitting needles and DK it would take far too long.

Mioliere- Do You Want to be in My French Gang then? - We could meet half way, I have a tent we could share. Wishing you success in your move - step forward into the future with only anticipation and excitement of what lies ahead of you. OH and the wine is cheap.

Maytaurus - re the DH - I have never known any different, but I do miss him when it comes time to move big items of furnature and he loves me that much he bought me a girlie chain saw........half the weight of the normal ones, but I can still do serious damage with it.

Away to have a go on a:j knitting machine
