Oh Angel, I do feel for you. I hate those first few seconds when you wake up, before you realise it's all gone wrong, so so painful.

If it helps, there has only ever been one person, out of all the 1000's of members here, who has had a co-op closed, that was Merry Gentry, because she had a new OR examiner who was over-zealous and never should have closed the account. But she was still allowed to open another one and co-op were great at sorting it all out for her.

  • Hi Angel,

I am in a similiar situation to you, on 29th Dec court hearing for house reposession, ex has just buried his head in the sand and left me to deal with it all. I also owe and bank with Barclays but have just opened a Cashminder account with co-op and informed them that I was going to petition for BR in the new year and they were fine. Will use this for my wages to go into and for DD's. I stopped paying all my creditors as I needed to furnish the rented accommodation and there is just no way I could have afforded to do both.
It may seem like an awful time at the moment but things like this make you a stronger person. It has been four months since I seperated from my husband. Thank goodness 2009 is here!! It can only get better!!! Good Luck and hang on in there!!

Angel get yourself over to Freecycle https://www.freecycle.org and join any local groups. It's a bbit like ebay but you express an interest in something and if you are selected then you pick it up for free :D

  • I took advice from people on here and CCCS, co-op will freeze account but OR should inform bank asap that they have no interest in it! I opened it purely as I was panicking that I would have no account ready for my wages to be paid into. Hopefully OR should be ok but been told its a bit like a lottery all depends on the day!! It is the part I am most dreading but has to be done! You are not alone in this and this site is great for any questions you have and also for support!!

Angel in all my time on this board and others I have only known 1 account closed and that is the one that Peachy has told you about. I have not heard of an account being frozen in a very long time. So please stop panicing.

  • From what I can gather co-op will un-freeze the account, if not and the OR wants it closed then have I read in this forum that co-op will just open you another account. You should have no probs if co-op are not one of your creditors.

It's extremely rare for co-op to even bother freezing an account (it's the banks that do it, not the OR) despite what CCCS may advise.
