you tube problems

Hi,

Wondering if anyone can help me. Whenever I watch something on You Tube, it works for a little while, then stops, then starts, then stops IYSWIM
This also happens whenever I watch a video on MSN.

Is there anything I can do to stop this? I have watched stuff before on You Tube and MSN, and it worked okay.

Any ideas?

Maybe someone is downloading something on your network and using up all the bandwidth or something might be downloading something onto your computer like windows updates. How long has it been doing this. Take a internet speed test http://www.speedtest.net/ and post back your results.

Sounds like you have a poor connection or a crap ISP. Try this here.

  • it just buffering, due to slow internet connection. probabily find it's ok off peak. run some speed checks, see if you are getting what you expect.

I'm having exactly the same problem right now... although I am downloading a movie at the same time...however, previously that hasn't caused yotube to skip/buffer etc.

Oh well, never mind as off out now for NYE. Happy new year all!!!

    Hi Thomas,

its been doing this for a while now. We did get a new pc in August, but, to be honest, I cant remember whether it did this before or after we got the new comp. I think it is the buffering that another poster has mentioned.

Anyway, I did that speedtest thing you recommended, and the results came up as follows:-

    download 227kb/s and upload 635 kb/s

I dont know what this mean, so any help would be grateful.

download 227kb/s is very low and its lower than your upload! What broadband package are you on. I would phone up your isp and ask them why its so low.

that is too slow for streaming, change your ISP

Nope unless they are all on at the same time using the bandwidth. Have you got max signal on your wireless this can affect the performance if the signal is low. I would phone them up saying your only getting 227kb/s a second.

In some cases it could be because a neighbor or someone nearby has there router on the same channel causing some interference. Try turning the router off for a few mins then back on.
You can manually select a channel by logging onto the config of the router type 192.168.0.1 in the address bar on your browser the defualt login is admin for the username and sky for the password. On the router config it will also have, post the figures for these as this will help deterimine if it's the computer.
    DownStream Connection Speed
    UpStream Connection Speed

Is your wireless encrypted as someone maybe stealing your bandwidth. Most sky routers come with a wpa code on them already.

Also clean all your temp files with ccleaner http://www.ccleaner.com/download
