South Somerset Parking vouchers for blue badge holders

Hi Everyone
Just a reminder as these pre-paid parking vouchers have been sold in South Somerset for a while now. These will save you money if you need to use council owned car parks. One book of ten three hour vouchers costs £12 the equivalent payment at the car park meter would cost you £18. Other vouchers for different amounts of time are available (i.e 1 hour and 2 hour). The vouchers are also transferrable between car parks. Greater detail on this can be found at the link below.
I expect that this scheme exists in other areas of the country also

What appears to be particularly taking the 'Somerset whatnot' is that you have to decide how long you want to stay before you buy your vouchers, so you need a separate book of tickets if you want to make a few short stays! That's appalling!
The answer is obviously to park on the street and thumb your nose at South Somerset.0 -
Well, no, the scheme that exists in most(?) other areas of the country is that you can park free in council car parks if you have a blue badge.
I wish it was that simple. Where I live, on council car parks only those vehicles displaying disabled road tax AND a blue badgecan park for free. Just having a blue badge by itself means one has to pay the full price to park. Its likewise in quite a few council areas hereabouts. Further afield in the adjoining county area everyone pays full price to park whether one has a blue badge/disable tax disc or not.

There is no right to have free car parking just because you have a blue badge. And don't assume what happens in one town will happen in another.
A have noticed that a lot of sea side towns make you pay parking unless you have a tax exemption disk.
Personally I don't care if I have to pay for parking as long as the blue badge parking is a closer to the shops. And bigger spaces to get the wheelchair when it's needed.

calleyw, I haven't heard of the tax exemption bit for parking.I am tax exempt but have never noticed these signs and would be interested to know more.We too have noticed you have to pay at a lot of coastal resorts.I too am grateful for a parking place near to shops etc but obviosly if it is free all the better.Thanks.0

I have often wondered exactly what the parking regulations are for holders of a blue badge. They appear to be able to park where they like. I am not against special parking arrangements for blue badges. However, if it is the case, that it is thought, that restricted parking is desirable in a particular road, presumably because of congestion or safety reasons. Why, then, is it all right for blue badge cars to park there. Do they not cause just as much congestion as other cars.
Special wide spaces in car parks, most definitely. Disabled spaces on the street ok. But if its not safe or causing congestion, no.
Incidentally, why do blue badges mostly not have to pay to park.
This is not a rant, I am just curious.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -

Right, so now I know. I still do not think badge holders should be allowed to park on double yellow lines. Surely the whole point of yellow lines is to prevent congestion. If a car is causing congestion then it does not matter if it has a badge or not. It is still causing congestion. I do not suppose I will get any support on this one.I can afford anything that I want.

It rather depends, col. Blue Badge holders aren't allowed to park in such a way as to cause an obstruction, but you'll frequently find a run of parking bays with double yellow lines on either end. If the bays are full, but I'm not going to be causing an obstruction, I'll tuck myself on the end of the bay. Of course, if everybody did that, it would soon end up causing an obstruction, but if only 1 car is there, usually it won't.s/e0

Beginning to wonder why I started this thread. The bottom line is if you want the vouchers the option is there lol0
