Incorrect. Wideband aerials can create more problems than they solve.

In some areas the digital channels are currently out of the analogue band, so you either get a wideband aerial or one that covers the two bands, only get a wideband aerial if you have no choice.

In many areas the digital channels are in the same band as the analogue ones and would be stupid to buy a wideband aerial, when a grouped aerial is fine and is in fact better.

Most areas after switch over which currently have digital channels out of band will be moving those back in band.

    I defer!

BTW, I always thought it was "no-one" though I hear rumours that hyphens are being abolished!

No one is the correct usage, though no-one is accepted, not in common use, but then the number of people who get it wrong you'd might consider noone common use.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

We bought a new LDC TV for my mum on New Years Day. Set it up at our house first to make sure all was well then took it 30 miles away to her house and installed it. Then we found that most of the freeview channels had disappeared that we had previously had at home. Tried the automatic search option 3 times and still had no luck. Then we switched it off and started again only this time we tried the option "Start for the first time" and then we were offered the option "delete all previous channels". We then got all the freeview channels. Just before leaving my OH went to tidy up some of the cables and all the freeview channels disappeared! Turned out that the aerial cable had a faulty connection and once that was sorted all was okay. The reason I am relaying this story is : if you booted it up initially with an insufficient aerial and then fitted the booster - maybe it is still storing the original configaration and needs to be re-set from scratch????

Aerial group doesn't come into it - you need a wide-band aerial to cover the whole spectrum.

This is a popular misconception, but in fact a wide-band aerial is just a convenient 'jack of all trades' which will work reasonably in every location. An aerial tuned for the set of groups used in a specific area will almost always provide much better performance than a wideband.

  • Just to add my tu'pennyworth,

My elderly Mother has bought a digital tv for her bedroom(blissfully unaware of all this new digital stuff!!).....
....and muggins here has been trying to install it with an indoor aerial.

From my exertions over the last 2 days i have to agree with many posters that a set top aerial does not work adequately i.e even if you do get a signal the picture freezes or is totally lost.I tried using the very best set top aerial as judged by a digital website(the name escapes me now).

The tv worked well when used with the usual roof top aerial so it appears that she will have to 'get a man in' to split the cable and route some to her bedroom.

I think at present to use a set top aerial you need to live close to a transmitter and have no obstructions.

Someone is making loadsa money out of this digital thingy!!

Something i havent seen on the boards is that you can test your current aerial capacity to receive digital tv by turning to page 284 on teletext channels 1,2,3and 4 only(not 5)
