That West Wing room is as tiny as the one we passed. Far, far smaller than a Grand Tower room and no way I would consider staying in one.

Regarding uploading photos to Flickr, if you want to speed things up a bit there's an easy way of resizing groups of photos by using the Windows XP Powertoy Image Resizer.

All you do is get your group of photos, highlight them all and click 'Resize'. You then choose what size you want them (640x480, 800x600, 1024x768) and it does them all together. As an example, I've just resized 3 pictures which were over 3mb each and they are now less than 100kb each (800x600).

Hope it helps out, you can download it here (direct from Microsoft):

Valley of fire or red rock canyon? Was thinking of hiring a car and heading out to either 1 of these places, has anyone done this and what 1 do they recommend?

    Cheers

We have done the Valley Of Fire more than once and it is great to get away from the Vegas hustle and bustle and just see a natural wonder. There are many different parts to it and it's just a case of wandering around then getting in the car to drive down to the next bit.
What I would advise though, is to take a hat & shades and plenty of water. There is a visitors centre/sovenior place there as well with information that's alright.
If you go, then try and find a place later on called "Cottonwood Cove" just to look at the houseboats and the harbour, it's such a peaceful place with lovely blue water.
Also if you carry on, you sort of come full circle back to Vegas but end up arriving at a place called Primm, which has a few casinos but a decent shopping outlet.
I'm sorry I can't tell you which highways/roads to take because we found the Cove & Primm by accident as we got lost :D but you should be able to get directions from the visitors centre at Valley or one of those handy nevada maps.

Thats confused me. I thought VOF was an hour to the Northeast of Vegas and stays east of the I15. Primm is about an hour West of Vegas, how do you end up there?
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

We got lost!!! :D When we went NE to VOF, Nevada had the worst rainfall in 10 years (this was in 2006) and completely flooded some of the main highways and WASHED some of the roads away  so we ended up looking at Petrographs at one part of the Valley and taking the completely wrong diversion and ended up on a very long straight(ish) road, eventually turning up at Cottonwood Cove . Then we just ended up going the same way and did a circle ending up west in Primm.
If you thought you were confused imagine being in that car with us!!! lol :D

Lol - that was some worng turn Cottonwood Cove is about 100miles south of Valley of fire!
Anyway, Red Rock Canyon is a stones thorw from the trip (figuratively speaking). It has a few decent trails to hike and a decent casino on its doorstep, but nothing special. VOF is quite a drive away, but worth it, especially if you want to safe a few $$ and drive on up to Mesquite for the weekend rates.
