Hi all, here we are relaxing in the Cathay Pasific lounge at LHR. Drive down from Nottingham easy, no traffic at all. Just to advize even if you did ESTA registration you still have to fill out the green form for landing as it doesn't come into effect until later this month!! God knows why they let you do it if you can't use it.
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

Do you do the ESTA application in advance or just before you travel.
I've not bought my tickets yet so I think it's probably best if I wait a while until I have them

i would defiantly do it the other way around . better to find out if there is a problem before you spend a large amount of money than after and risk losing the money ( very small chance i know)

The fact sheet says the application can be submitted anytime prior to travel (though I've read elsewhere that it has to be not less than 72 hours prior to departure) but they recommend you make the application as soon as your trip is planned (presumably so if there is an issue with your application you have time to work through any issues in advance of travel).

We have just done ours for our trip in May. The flight info and hotel details are optional. We had an approval almost immediately.
