Also not everyone *just* does Vegas-we found access invaluable for reconfirming/changing flights and hotels as well as contacting people we were meeting later on in the trip.
Some people can't escape from work contact whilst away too and email is a lot less intrusive than calls (especially if you work for idiots like someone we went away with last year who would ring at 5am)

    Not picking on you, honestly.

Just wondered why lots of people feel the need to have internet connection daily while on holiday?

Agree with the reasons others have said, but would add that my hubby is a bit of a news junkie and US newspapers just aren't great for him...plus he likes to keep an eye on sports scores, etc. and when possible watch any F1 races while we're away. We started bringing my work laptop for work purposes but used it for personal stuff on days we'd paid for access for work anyway...now that we're used to having it, we would miss it I think. I don't think we'll use it every day, but probably 5 out of 8 we'll pay for access.
    .
Oh, and it's really handy to have for checking-in online...before we started bringing my work laptop we always had to make our way to the business centre during their opening hours so it was a bit of a hassle...now we can just check-in whenever we want from the room
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

Think it depends what you use it for at home too- i use it daily for personal stuff at home -given the choice of internet access or a mobile i'd rather have internet access whilst away -but others would feel the opposite.

Thanks all who replied, I was just being nosey really;).

If you are leaving kids at home, of course it makes sense.

I usually take a laptop but mainly use it for checking on my football team scores...not sure i want to know this year though!!!!!!

I like to sit with a coffee outside the Apple shop at Fashion Show and log on using their wi-fi. I run Tracy's Ebay business web design and customer support as well as designing sites for other businesses and if they get a problem I have to be able to deal with it even when we are on holiday
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

4:30 am was my worst work call ...and best part? she dialled the wrong number - meant to choose the person above me in her contacts list. :)
Still, the adrenaline from a phone ringing at that hour got me up early and I had a good win that morning on the slots. :)
