Chili and Yamada (and Umax) are the same company.

    Cheers

I know that they are part of the same group. The recorders are still different though, and personally I would prefer the Yamada 80 gig one.

Also as a registered user you will still get the £15 off making it £154 (although I haven't had any vouchers off them this month).
£154 for a HD DVD recorder! Anywhere else coming close?

I only thought you got the £15 discount if the purchase was £200+. for £150+ its the £7 discount, mind you that still makes it £162.98 which is excellent.
  • and Yamada makes the Technika Tescos brand! I wouldnt bother with it as my recent one has been returned after conking out after 2wks!

Expect the prices to plummet in the next year or so as the analogue switch off approaches, and so this ones' tuner becomes useless.

You might as well put the money to a decent computer.
Top of range computer DVD recorders £30, £80gig hard drive less than £35. So where is the rest of the money going.? On the box?

Stand alone dvd recorders dropping in price like bricks, cheapest so far £49 at Lincoln Co-op. only thing missing is a £35 hd

Panasonic ES10, was £249 now £119 in only a few months.

  • Surely a digital tuner doesn't matter if you have sky or cable? Whats the advantage? Does anyone know of a DVD Recorder that currently has a digital tuner? I can't find one!

Bathtub curve (things tend to fail when new), and a sample of one, isn't really a reason to avoid it ;)

I was thinking the same thing, I honestly can't remember the last time I recorded anything off analogue, everything I watch/record is via Sky, infact I don't even have my house ariel connected!

Well of course if you have Sky, there's no point in a digital tuner. But then having Sky and being a money saving expert are mutually exclusive, aren't they?:D

I bought this dvdrecorder last year from Maplins. Very pleased with it and no regrets buying it (the hard drive is a blessing and 80gb is more than enough space to record a normal level of stuff).

Problem is I was trying to put my vhs tapes onto dvd, but it only records old tapes due to macrovision blocking and searching web could find no codes etc.
I didn't know about rules etc, it just made sense - upgrade from VHS to DVD Recorder = record videos and dump VHS player.

Other than that it's so simple to use, good on screen tools, though the guide for initial set up only became clear once I had got it working, rather limited and vague.

Panasonic for one, not everyone can afford Sky or Cable. ;)
Surely if you are on Sky then a Sky+ box is better than this all it then needs is a cheap and cheerful DVD recorder.
As I said you are paying £95 over the odds for this combo.
