Looks okay but it doesn’t have a digital tuner, personally I would be against buying any tv/video equipment that doesn’t have a digital tuner as its only a matter of a couple of years and you’ll have to connect a freeview box to it and all the additional hassle that will go with that.

It depends on where you live when digital switch off occurs. Its over 6 years in Yorkshire region.

But in the mean time you still can't get the extra channels.

Well you can if you record from freeview to dvd as I do occasional, although I tend to use pvr mostly for redcording, ist quick and simply. However, I do think they should now be shipping all equipment with digital tuners to allow the change over.

It ( analogue) should have begun to shut down in Cumbria ( mainly Conservative) in a month or two, but HM gov chickened out,so put it back two years and decided to get the BBC to pay for the changeover, ( not them, as it might hit their popularity).
It seems they are even more scared of Yorkshire, being a Labour heartland.

It would be the better deal if they were the same recorder, unfortunately they are not, the 80 gig is made by Yamada, and the 160 gig is made by Chili.

Yamada would be the one I would go for everytime.

Yamada is the better spec player (apart from memory) and would be the one I would go for everytime.

Also as a registered user you will still get the £15 off making it £154 (although I haven't had any vouchers off them this month).
£154 for a HD DVD recorder! Anywhere else coming close?
