If you're not bothered what brand you have the Panasonic BD35 is supposed to be the best budget Blu-Ray player. They're around £185-£200.

Have to say a "yes" to this player too if your not too bothered about brands... If I had gone for the Panasonic tv prior to Xmas I would have fone this way with the BR player... Again, a cracking piece of kit for under £200.

I have a Panasonic TV and the BD35 is on my shopping list when funds allow. Or whatever they replace it with as I'm guessing a new model will be out fairly soon.
It's my problem, it's my problem

And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die

I'm not sure on which model of blue ray player that you should purchase as i'm not to interested in this piece of equipment myself. However on the subject of picture quality please have a look at the link provided as this page gives you a more detailed investigation into blue ray vs hd dvd.

That's not a very good article; you can't compare the quality of Blu-Ray and HD-DVD by looking at different films on each.

Not to mention that as previously pointed out, the article is two and a half years old and all its other "predictions" have turned out to be 100% incorrect.

With absolutely no disrespect to the Panasonic DMP-BD35 - which I'd buy in an instant if the rest of my kit was Panasonic - I'd recommend the Sony Blu-Ray player to the OP because the television he has just purchased is also a Sony.

That's not as trite, simplistic nor naive as it might seem at first sight. There are actually some useful benefits of interoperability and integration to be gained from buying pieces of kit of the same generation from the same manufacturer - even in matters as basic (but convenient) as being able to use the handset of one device to control another.

Like the OP, I, too, bought a Sony television shortly before Christmas and was faced with the same dilemma. After doing some research online - both in regard to technical reviews and to retailers' current prices - I bought a Sony DAV-S350 Blu-Ray player from Richer Sounds. It's a brilliant device: marvellous picture and sound quality. :happyhear

Be careful with prices when buying things from Richer Sounds during its current Sale which commenced on Boxing Day - some of the items in it are MORE expensive than the regular prices displayed on the Richer Sounds website! There's nothing sinister about this: the brochures for the Sale were prepared and printed a few weeks in advance. Richer Sounds points that out itself on its webpages. To get the Internet price you simply have to draw their attention to the discrepancy when you pay for the item in the shop

The Sony DAV-S350 Blu-Ray player is indeed £160 on the website but in their shops and in their Sale brochure it's priced at £170.

Personally, however, I felt it worthwhile to pay the extra £20 for the version that is also multi-region for DVDs. That one's £180 on the Richer Sounds website - but £190 in the Sale. I had no problem whatsoever in getting the lower price when I pointed this out to the sales assistant.

If you'll be going to going to their local shop anyway, you might also consider buying the multi-region version of the Sony RDR-HXD995 upscaling DVD recorder with Freeview tuner and a 250GB hard drive for £220 while you're there. That's a marvellous device for the money, too, and it integrates perfectly with the Blu-Ray player and the television. :grouphug:

    Richer Sounds is great. :money:

Don't laugh at banana republics. :rotfl:

As a result of how you voted in the last three General Elections,
you'd now be better off living in one.
