Hi my OH is buying an xbox 360 soon,he could do with some advice. His he best buying the cheaper arcade one or the next one up with 60gb hard drive?
He`s not interested in playing online,or downloading anything to it.Would the arcade one be ok just for him saving games that he`s played.
Any advice would be appreciated
Thanks:beer:

Personally I'd go for the one with the hard drive. The latest firmware allows you to copy the whole game onto the hard drive; you still need the disk in the drive to start it, but then it plays from the hard drive, saving wear and tear on the DVD drive.
You can always buy a hard drive for the arcade version if he wants to upgrade in the future though.0 -
Thanks,He`s very indecisive and still hasn`t decided yet
What sort of price are the hard drives,if he goes for the arcade version?

Amazon have the 120 GB hard drive for £88.
If he gets the Arcade version, he should also buy a component video or HDMI cable for it (depending on what connections your TV has), as it only comes with a composite video cable with won't display an HD picture.0 -
So, do you just use any sort of external Hard drive. Ive got a oldish Freecome 80GB External HDD which i never use. Could i use that if i just got the Arcade?0

You can save photos or music on an external HDD and plug it in, but you won't be able to save games or demos on it as far as I'm aware. You need the Microsoft drive for that which connects to the top of the console.0 -

Ooooo I see. Aaww, well looking at them now there about £70 for 20GB. Might aswell go for the 60GB console.

Try to get the new model(jasper unit) as this has less problems with overheating .
Jasper units are fairly easy to identify – their power supplies are marked as 150W instead of the usual 175W.

I don't think it's quite as easy as that; I have a Jasper model 360 which came with a 175 watt PSU.
The best way to tell is to look at the amp rating on the console. The Falcon units says 12V-14.2A, whereas the newer, supposedly cooler, Jasper units say 12V-12.1A.
The plug on he back of the console where the power lead goes is also a slightly different shape; the 175 Watt PSUs will fit both the Jasper and Falcon consoles, whereas the new 150 Watt PSUs will only fit the Jasper consoles.0
