Totally agree with everything sarahsarah said thats the way I did it too.. if you don't think baby is getting enough milk then supplement with milky puddings etc ...... do keep up the night time feed as long as baby wants it ...#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

i've just thought - i suppose i could make his weetabix with formula milk - that would be one way of getting his daily intake up a bit.DON'T WORRY BE HAPPY

I went back to work when my first daughter was 9 months old and just fed morning, night and when I got in from work. Neither of my two would take a bottle really - my eldest self weaned at 16 months - she got that age quickly it was never my intention to feed that long! At 9 months I *think* they only need 3 feeds in the day or something - you might want to check that as I am a bit vague on baby stage now through it iyswim...
If you want to go the bottle route NUK teats are meant to be best for breast fed babies - I had some success with my second with these and then just ended up feeding as couldn't be doing with all the sterilising etc.. you could get your OH to try to feed him?
Hope you can work out what is best for you both, you've done great to get to 7 months and if you do decide to carry on it honestly gets to be less time consuming and less of your day if you know what I mean.0 -
yeah i think i want to keep the night time feed going, its part of our bed time routine and i would really miss it! i shall take a better note of how many times i actually feed him tomorrow and then work from there. at 7 months i think he's supposed to be getting around 20oz of milk a day so i guess if he took about 5 x 4 oz drinks a day - oh lordy that seems like a lot to get into him, i feel myself giving up again! maybe i should leave him with my OH for a full day and see how he gets on!
We cross posted!
Your plan is achievable - don't be disheartened!
I know from another thread that your baby is in solids now. Don't panic about getting all 20 ozs into him from day 1. Put some of it in his food (maybe move him onto milky breakfast cereals, rice puddings, smoothies, etc (made with formula) if he isn't having these already) and don't forget that if he's still having 1 or 2 breastfeeds a day, he doesn't need as much formula. If you are worried keep a close eye on his weight charts, but certainly give yourself a few weeks to build up to him having this amount per day, and don't panic if he goes for a week or so on less, provided he is otherwise well. I am sure you will find that once he cracks the techinique of either bottle or sippee cup, that his quantities will go up fast.0 -

This is what I did... You don't have to worry too much about the ounces of milk etc.. If you are still going to give him a morning and bedtime feed, just offer bits of milk through the day, porridge or similar for breakfast, a yoghurt or fromage frais after lunch and maybe rice pudding or custardy thing after tea time all the milk in those adds up. Also macaroni cheese, cauliflour cheese etc make good lunches, I used to make up cheese sauce using SMA follow on milk. I used to make up a jug of maybe 10 ounces or two of those 6 oz sachets and then just put 2 ounces in a cup with morning snack or whatever..
It can be quite stressful if you try to count up the ounces in everything! I remember searching once how many ounces of milk a pot of fromage frais was equal too!0 -
I went back to work when DS was about 9 months (almost 10 I think) and just fed morning and evening, he was fine. Slowly dropped the morning feed, then the post-work one, then finally the evening one and just feed at night now.
Are you really desperate to stop completely right now or can you do it slowly? IMO much easier on you and them if it's gradual.0 -

Good idea!
I've just remembered the reason I bought the individual sachets, a tin is only good for 4 weeks after it's been opened, so if you are only making up a few ounces a day most of it will get wasted. The boxes of sachets were really expensive in boots and tesco but a lot cheaper from asda..0 -
