hi shirl, try and see if cab have a message line and they should call you back. or maybe an email address.
call bt and get your no. changed it only takes 4/5 days. say you have nuisance calls and then just give out no to those you want.
speak to someone at your health centre or doctor, sometimes they have debt advice people who can help. also active living classes suitable for all fitness and ages to take you out a bit. keep you healthy and ease the worry!
just ask if i can help you with anything or find things out. x0 -
I have emailed CAB this morning to say I have heard nothing, I seem to be in a bad area for CAB, my nearest one doesn't cover this area and the one that does is quite a way from me. The idea was that someone would come to see me at home but it isn't happening. I am waiting to hear if I have managed to get a new place to live,I have been " bidding" online and am waiting just now to see what happened this week. If I can move I may as well wait till afterwards.
Not sure I want to change my phone number at this stage,I just tell them to sod off if I answer the phone,I know it's very rude but they must be as thick as 2 planks to keep ringing,it's unsolicited calls so I don't give a damn if they don't like it.
Just want to get things sorted now.0 -
Just for future reference and for anyone considering changing their phone numbers. It will screw up your internet/broaband. As your provider also needs to be alerted to it changing, and you could be without a connection online for an indefinite period whilst they switch your service to your new number. It's not as easy as it sounds is what I am saying. Was pondering whether to mention this but it's something that gets overlooked a lot. As it will cause further aggro, further hassle with your internet connection. And a time when you need it the most. Personally, I don't think anyone should have to be inconvenienced by these yobs who persistently call when instructed not to dozens of times when it should be they who cease calling.
PS If I am wrong I am wrong but thought to mention it as has always been my understanding of it eg internet/broadband and from what I have personally read myself. I am in a doubting mood today.Any help, opinions, views I may hold those are my own. Respect them as you would expect the same in return. Offered freely, is gleaned from a lifetime of experiences, knowledge gaining. Passed on to benefit others. I may be direct, ask you questions but those are to help you. Up to you if you choose to take it. I won't judge you either way.

hi shirl, merlin has a good point if it causes probs with internet. i did it but my isp wasn't affected so it worked for me. No more calls, it was so quiet!
perhaps you will need to send a letter to the manager of cab which might start ball rolling again. meanwhile make a list of all your creditors and their addresses with account nos and amount you owe. cab will require this info so they can write to them, then they are supposed to deal directly with cab and not you.
if you have done this then just keep trying cab as they should arrange an appointment to see you and hopefully soon.
let us know what happens, cheers0 -
It would probably muck my broadband up then because I use BT on the same number. Some instinct must have told me to leave it alone because it crossed my mind before about changing numbers, I was also thinking about a change of ISP but decided against it as well due to so many problems going on that I don't need any more hassle right now !
Thanks anyway..........Shirley0 -
Another update, nothing is happening ! I got another email from CAB saying they were passing my name on to someone, this was last week but heard nothing again so far. Still getting between 6 and 8 phone calls a day and letters most days as well. I got a call from Mercers this morning and I said to this chap "No wonder people kill themselves after you people constantly ringing " then I put the phone down,2 minutes later he rang again and he sounded a bit nervous,he started to say" I can tell you how to stop the phone calls " so I said " Yes by killing myself before I pay you ********* any money" and then put the phone down again !
I have been offered somewhere else to live in Kent,I have been trying to contact them all day,I can't leave my phone number in case it gets ignored like all the others ! Seriously,I have been answering the phone for about 10 days now in case it's CAB,but it isn't happening.I don't understand why these people constantly ring me,I have written twice to them all now. what do they think they can achieve by constant harrassment ? I even had a call from a chap at the Abbey at 8.30 on Saturday night, told him to write to me,they do anyway ! I have enough problems without all this hassle.
Thought I would have things sorted by now,0 -
hi, that's awful for you but when you move to kent at least it will be quiet for a while. do you think you will be helped with your finances in kent now rather than in scotland or will it take some time to move? tell cab and housing to call your mobile no or advise them to only call you between certain times then unplug your phone the rest of the time.
hope some things are resolved soon. concentrate on packing for kent!
good luck x0 -

No it doesnt and no they dont, im sure there are exeptions, but we had no service disruption when we changed our number, wich i did not expect knowing how the hardware DID work;)Thats it, i am done, Blind-as-a-Bat has left the forum, for good this time, there is no way I can recover this account, as the password was random, and not recorded, and the email used no longer exits, nor can be recovered to recover the account, goodbye all ………….0 -
It's not certain I am moving yet ! I have to speak to the housing assoc about taking my pets and they expect me to go to an interview which is a thousand mile round trip for me ! Have to get it sorted within 5 days.
I don't use my mobile now,I must be one of the few who don't !
I have one but don't have cause to use it,no family or friends here and don't get out much. I can think of better things to do with my time than yakking to people on the phone when I am out, most calls are not urgent and can wait till I get home.0 -
Hiya hun
Blimey I feel for you...can you pop your phone onto answer service/machine?...I wouldn't wait in hope for CAB..act now and I cannot see that even if you are moving to Kent you can't set the ball rolling now..what I could suggest is telling anyone you do get on the other end of the phone that you are curently taking advice from a debt advisor and they have said you cannot make any payments to any one of your creditors as this would show preference that these telephone calls are harrassment and you will be obliged to report them!
I hope you get some support & advice through all this...you don't live in the Scottish Borders by any chance?..our local CAS was chronic with us..we turned to Trading Standards for debt advice...See another post I replied to of yours today.
