hi, i've now submitted application to aib on 12mar and rec'd form 17 stat declaration of income etc on 21st mar and now waiting for them to assess it.

i helped a friend do it earlier and she had confirmation of br within about 2weeks. cab are helpful when writing to creditors but they gave me conflicting advice so i called aib myself and they put me right.

cab advised you have to include all creditors on form and must have exact amounts you owe. not strictly correct as aib advised even if someone wrote later they would add on to list of creditors and even if you didn't have all details like debt collection companies who had taken over debt you should send them all info you knew to get ball rolling.

i'm slightly worried as on mine i have declared i had a few shares in an old company i worked for, only worth about 150 but i suppose the potential is there for them to increase so i don't know how they'll view that.

i hope you have moved on and got something sorted out?

Hi, I haven't done anything yet ! I get letters in the post and so many phone calls every day,I just ignore them now !
I have written twice to them all explaining my situation and about 2 of them more or less agreed to write the debt off as I am a pensioner and at 70 am not likely to be getting a job, especially in the present climate !
I realise that I will have to go to CAB shortly as I have pushed them as far as I can go now,my bank account is still being dealt with by the Ombudsman so will not be getting sorted for a while.
Funnily enough despite me not paying anyone I am only just keeping my head above water as it is. A quarter of my income is going on gas and electric which doesn't help at all !
Hopefully CAB may be able to sort that out too.
Not sure if they will BR me because of age and low income.
Barclaycard have agreed to pay me back PPI on my credit card, wonder if they will reduce the debt with it instead of paying me directly ?
I still want to move from here but nothing is happening on that front either.
I am pleased you are getting sorted,I haven't been on here for a while as things got quieter, think maybe I have got too relaxed when I really should be doing something, CAB will be a bit surprised I think when I do go because I have got past the stage of giving a damn now !
The last 2 years have been quite bad for me apart from financially and I am just coming out of the tunnel to see some light !
Having said that I seem to be constantly having arguments with the housing assoc about my neighbours also my animals so you never know I may get evicted and become a bag lady yet !
Thanks for asking and speak to you shortly.

hi, i would say to you to go to cab - find their address and some have an email which you could use to request an appointment, might take a few weeks as they are very busy and their opening hours have been cut, but they are so helpful.

i don't believe age is a barrier to br just how much money you have and your assets. barclaycard may well put money they owe towards reducing debt but really not sure.

please try and speak to someone at cab you'll be surprised how much better you'll feel and they will also advise with house assoc issues! above all don't worry too much and remember if the calls are a nuisance call bt and change your no.

look after yourself and speak soon.

I got in touch with CAB yesterday in Dumbarton but they had to pass my details on to Argyll & Bute as they don't cover my area despite being only 8 miles away ! I have had 2 phone calls today fron Argyll & Bute and the lady I spoke to was very understanding and is arranging for someone to visit me, she took all my details down, number of debts and amounts and said I may be able to hang on to the car as it probably wont be worth trying to get rid of it now in the present climate.
I have her phone number to ring just in case I have problems with phone calls, I just have to find out who is ringing and pass them on to her.
I was able to get lots of good advice and I am to expect a phone call tomorrow from someone who will come to see me.
So now I just have to collate all my papers together and wait !
I feel a little nervous about it all but hopefully all will go well and I will feel better soon.

hi shirl, i'm sure they will help you and now you're not alone! they will most likely write to your creditors and advise them to deal with them rather than you.

it's good they are able to visit so maybe write a list of things you want to ask and they'll advise.

let me know if they think you may be able to go br through lila and if i can be of any help don't hesitate to ask.

good for you in taking this step!!:T

hi shirl and all, hope you had a fruitful meet with cab? from recent experience they are very helpful and pleasant to talk to so their advice i'm sure has aided you somewhat.

i've been reading posts and threads on here about the lila br, which i've applied for (and heard nothing) but everyone appears to apply, receive a form 17 (just stating your income) and then a week or so later they become br. just to advise this appears to be true in most cases but not mine so if you are going down this route don't panic if it should take a while. the aib are very nice and will help you with any queries and you can email them.

my problem seems to be that i acquired some shares from my previous employment (some given through a profit share and others we saved to buy), and as the br application asked about shares i wrote down the details. it's an asset but mine are only worth a circa 200 at the moment but i suppose they have the potential to be worth more.

i'm telling you this in case you have anything like this as i applied for lila br on 12th march and only now i discover they are checking it out because of this. other parts of the form only ask you to advise if you have any asset worth over 1000 or total assets over 10,000, but on this section it didn't ask if you had shares worth whatever just that you had them! i'm kinda worried now they see this as a future asset????

anyway i'll keep you informed. i've completed a friends lila form and i found it straight forward and they're now br and absolutely no more demanding letters or phone calls. they've had no trouble with their bank account either (yet anyway over 2mths now tho).

i hope i hear about mine soon but as easter is upon us i prob won't! to top this worry i'm on a long jury service at the moment but at least it's taking my mind off debt worries! speak soon and take care.:easter:
  • I was expecting a phone call today but it didn't arrive, possibly very busy or due to Easter maybe ?
My big problem is the £7000 in the Abbey that is in dispute with the Ombudsman also my car is worth more than £1000 but as I have difficulty walking they may let me keep it, so they say anyway.
When I know a bit more I will let you know what they decide to do.

    Cheers.......Shirley
  • So far I haven't heard a word from CAB, it must be a few weeks now. I have tried a couple of times this month to get a response, nobody seems interested !
I tried this morning to speak to someone on the phone at the council but I only got an ansaphone message.
My phone calls average about 6 to 8 a day from these idiots after money,I have written to them all twice explaining my circumstances and I am really sick of it.
I am attempting to move from this address back to Kent so I am answering the phone just in case it's about moving or by some miracle it will be CAB.
I know they must be busy but how long are you supposed to wait ?

    Fed up........Shirley
