I was not inferring you had anything to hide. When i said delve deeper, i mean't they may well ask where every penny of income has gone for the last 2 years, that sort of thing. We have had posters on here where exactly that has happened. BCis hard enough without the OR breathing down your neck. Ask either lilybart or scarlett bout OR's:rolleyes: .Dx

For the last 2 years all of my money including savings has gone towards paying my debts, I don't drink or smoke and I don't gamble, hardly go anywhere at all,for the last year I haven't bought a thing unless neccessary so I don't much care if they want to delve into my finances.
If they think I have been extravagant in my life style on a state pension they want locking up :D

    Hi Shirley
As you're a retired person, it's just occurred to me to wonder whether you're getting all the benefits you're entitled to? Lots of people don't know what they can claim so £millions sits unclaimed every year. I recommend you get a benefits check with CAB or CCCS or your local Council's Welfare Rights team if they have one. Another thought is, are you by any chance a retired member of a union? If so, their welfare fund could help with your bankruptcy fee. Failing that, did you ever serve in the Forces? Or did your husband, if you have one? Because if so, SSAFA Forces Help are the organisation to contact and again, they might be able to help you with your BR fee.
Keep posting and let us know how you get on.

Thanks for the advice people but I can't get any more benefits, I am over the £124 limit, since my husband died I have lost my guaranteed credit which even caused me to have to pay some rent as well now ! I do get housing benefit and pay reduced council tax.
I never belonged to a union and my first husband was in the army but he re-married ! second husband that died was a civil servant but because we were divorced I lost his pension as well !
I have tried every alley believe me.
  • shirleymarye,
I can't give you any more advice than what the others have said but I would like to say you are in my thoughts - I feel for you.
I do agree that now is the time to go BR and let the Abbey stuff get sorted by the OR. Unless there is a chance of an imminent pay out so that you can use it for the BR fees. It is a lot to find.

Are you sure about that? When my State pension began, I had been divorced for nearly 30 years but was told I could apply for part of his pension. I didn't because I didn't want contact and he could have been entitled to some of mine. Perhaps things have changed...but you need to check this out.

My pension increased when he died because it's now based on his insurance stamps paid,I had my own small pension and I got guaranteed credit but I lost it when my pension increased after he died. I actually get £131 plus £16 pension credit which makes me £148. Can't get more than that.

All you are able to claim is Pension credit (which you are), plus housing benefit and council tax benefit (not a full award though, but you should only be paying pounds per week).

Because of the low income though, you will be eligible for court fees to be waived in BR. This will save you £150. You do not get one of the means tested benefits (pension guaranteed credit would cover that) but as your income is 52*£148 = £7696, the level for the court fees is £12,000 (for a single person). The forms are long winded, but at least you can get a small something. The OR fees are still payable though and these are £345.....

You have to pay the day you go to court to declare yourself bankrupt.
