    I've been Money Tipped!
I have a corporate gym membership. If I were to leave my job would I lose the membership? (Which depending on where the job was, could be a very good thing).

Not immediately but you may not be able to renew.

  • Just thought I'd tell you, I managed to bag a great bargain at my new gym - Fitspace! I joined the £10 a month scheme and although this does have a contract it's still the cheapest by far! There was a no contract membership which is £15 a month (still far cheaper than any of the other gyms about)

Was easy to join up through the Fitspace website and to make things better, they even have a promotion to get £5 off all memberships by quoting "AXFB5" (this may only be the Bournemouth branch so may want to check with them first) BARGAIN!!!

thats the easy part! now I just need to go!!! :rotfl:

I am looking to join somewhere in the Belfast area and cannot help but discover that Esporta seem to be pricing themselves out of the market! It seems that many of the gyms will offer you a membership for between £30 and £40.... Esporta offer me £58 including my employer's corporate discount.... if this is the company policy I dont think they will be hanging around for long....
    Always overestimating...
  • I'm also looking for any tips with virgin active. Fitness first gyms seem like such a good deal in comparison! But FF is quite far away from me and I know i'll tire of the trek within the first month, while VA is next door!

I'm going on Sat for a free trial to see if I like it. I just phoned to ask about any deals, I got the standred 12 month contract @ £49.95 or no contract membership at £66 plus £10 joining fee!!!

I know that if you take up a virgin credit card you get 1 month free gym, but that's all I can find... any other offers anyone has found? Haggling with gym people is very intimidating!

Hum, that actually seems cheaper than most offers that I've heard about for Virgin Active gyms (in London). Which location was that? Also, is that membership the one that allows you to go to most other Virgin Active gyms?

Hi folks. I've been a member of Nuffields (was Cannons) for through Pruhealth for 2 years now. Last year I got myself on to platinum status and managed to reduce my monthly gym membership cost to under £2 a month!

I've just received my renewal email from Pruhealth who have advised me that my new rate from next month will be over £40 despite successfully reaching platinum once again. If these punks think I'm giving them £40 a month they're dreaming. Haven't they heard of the credit crunch!!

Feel free to post any comments. Thanks ;)

Update - my error folks! This was the annual premium, not monthly payment. New direct debit in place for a whopping £3 and something pence.

  • Hi, First post so just wanting some advice please.
I am unable to pay my membership anymore for various reasons due to the current climate. I cancelled my direct debit and Total fitness wrote to me requesting a last months payment as i should have given a months notice. Is there any way of me not having to pay the last month £38.50 as i haven't been or was able to pay. You would think that 5 years loyal custom would be enough.. Am i bound in the contract to pay it? Or how far would they take it?
I just think its a disgrace them asking for it as they know i am struggling and i have stated this in a nice email to them, however they wrote back saying i still need to pay the money. Help and advice please. Twigboy.

    Thanks in advice.
  • Hi all,
I have been a member of my Virgin gym for about 24 months, but decided with my new job and longer hours I was no longer getting value for money. I told them this and they were unhelpful, so decided to cancel my direct debit. 6 months later and tehy are now threatening me with a debt collection agency for £240 - are they trying it on, do I have a leg to stand on, should I pay - will they except renegotiated payment terms?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated?

    Thanks

Gym subscriptions are no different to things like sky/phone contracts etc in that you will have a notice period (which will have been stated in your initial t&c's) that you have to abide by - simply cancelling your direct debit does not cancel your membership, as far as they are concerned you are still a member - just one that hasn't paid their dues for a few months. You could try pleading ignorance but I'm not sure how much luck you'll have I'm afraid.

Anyone seen any joining offers for JJB Fitness lately? They aren't extortionate where I live - £34 per month and £35 joining fee but there must be some offers out there!
