Oxfam larger shops have colleage students that remake clothes into wonderful one off's (if you dont know how to sew)
Traid shops do the same, though not sure if they have branches out of London.
Here are some sites I like for refashioning inspiration:
etsy.com (handmade stuff)
craftster.org
the Craft Zine blog (can't remember URL)
http://www.theblackapple.typepad.com/somegirlswander/
and if you knit, Ravelry and Knitty have lovely patterns.0 -
Hi Lula, I've just found out about this and would love to join in please!
I would like to think I could manage £100. My spending last year I think was well below that, so should be able to manage it for 2009!
Thanks very much! QBxOfficial DFW Nerd Club #20  Proud To Be Dealing With My DebtsDFW Long Hauler #109

Hi,
I am a real meanie when it comes to clothes for myself but did spend £18.00 on a suit in Primark last Saturday. It's black pinstripe and looks amazingly smart. I have to look well turned out for work sometimes and it definately hits the mark. I had never been in Primark before and was quite impressed.
I look forward to reading about all your progress and will keep my own little log at the same time.

Hi Lula Hula
right after checking the stuff I have bought this year, I will go with the £100 allowance for January to December, can you please deduct £7 as the other bits I have bought were from vouchers, which I understand do not count!
Quick question, is there a abbreviations guide anywhere on the forums?

Hey hon,
the 4th 'sticky' down from the top of the Debt Free Wannabe Forum page is what you're looking for it's called The DFW Dictionary - anyone will be happy to explain any terms you're unsure of; took me ages but now I have to remember not to call my Dear Daughter DD when I'm talking in real life
PS - was a bit cheeky & deducted your £7 when I joined you up
Queen.Bess - hello & welcome to our crazy worldI'll add you to the members list.
Good for you susieqj - primark's a bit scary on a saturday when school's out - best avoided then
Thanks for more ideas mippy :T
you're all very good

Hooray - I love a challenge! Thanks for letting me join in!
So, my main aim this year is to re-use what I already have as far as possible to best effect, complimented by only secondhand clothing if I buy anything "new".
Does anyone on here do or know of Wardrobe Remix on Flickr? Members take photos of what they wear each day - often provides inspiration for new ways to wear clothes, colour combinations, etc. I'm not a member, but find blogging does the same sort of thing for me - once regulars start getting used to what you're wearing they leave comments offering new combinations you'd not think of otherwise.
Some bloggers/remixers come up with amazing and innovative projects too - such as making a statement necklace out of old laddered tights, wearing an oversize shirt or cardi as a skirt, layering short dresses over skirts to make them work appropriate - loads of brilliant ideas!
Oh, and looking back over my purchases I bought a skirt, two cardis and a dress in charity shops in January - £2.25, £1, £3.20 and £1.99. Better deduct from my total I guess!:j :j :j DEBT-FREE JULY 2015! :j :j :j0 -
Number 61 - Excellent, thanks Lula!! I look forward to rising to the challenge!
I've checked my spending diary for this year and I've definitely not bought any clothes! I've actually also got a £5 Sainsbury's voucher and a £10 Next voucher, so will try and use them up first!
I also did very well last year clothes wise as my MIL and SIL got me clothes for my birthday (in June), so I think I'll try that again this year! My SIL is very good at choosing clothes that I wouldn't think about and she does get it right!
So I hope this will be a challenge I can achieve!! QBxOfficial DFW Nerd Club #20  Proud To Be Dealing With My DebtsDFW Long Hauler #109

Hi guys
One other suggestion - sorry if its been posted before but i havent read all the thread - what about swapping clothes that you dont wear for others?
I swapped a couple of items on big wardrobe last year - i only had to pay for postage on what i was sending out and I was able to clear out some that I didnt want at the same time do my bit for recycling and get something new.0 -
Hello again ,
thanks for all tips Princess Peach :A - so many great ideas coming through, I love it.
I went to 3 charity shops this morning ; got a sweet little handsewn & embroidered heart card from oxfam for DD . I love theri cards & we put them in frmaes as pictures afterwards because they're too beautiful to get rid of ... didnt buy anything for me, then went to help the aged ( thinking of my futures self :rotfl: ) & got here a lovely heartshaped photo frame. Did make me think that I really could do that kind of stuff myself & have resolved to bring my sewing skills up to date. I come from a family of tailors & dressmakers but due to my generation I'm a consumer rather than a creator so I'm on a mission to reverse that  .
Off to update fairynuff's total - sorry hon  but very bargainous finds :A
Queen.Bess I have every faith in your ability to complete this challenge& having some vouchers certainly helps
bye for now
lula
xx
ps - completely forgot to say that I didnt buy anything for myself in the charity shops but they were absolutely buzzing with people - all types0
