Evening all & welcome to shopaholiski - dont you worry; we'll keep you on the straight & narrow :D

Great news on the jeans tiny-courageous :T I've lost my gift voucher so couldnt use it even if I wanted to to  .

CurlyTop - wow to fabby bargainous stuff, bet you're just :j.

I'm so keen for new stuff that this afternoon I found a short cardigan that I love but it has horrible sleeves on it so.... I spent the best part of 2 hours unravelling the sleeves & creating a cute lttle waistcoat type thing - much to the amusement of DD & her friend. I saved all the wool from the sleeves & DDs friend has promised to teach me how to knit once she has learnt :D .

I am now considering customising everything in my wardrobe just to keep me occupied. I also have a skirt that I love but hated the colour (sickly pink) so I tried to dye it a while ago & it came out a vicious purple :( I might have a go at making it a chocolate brown colour next...

I spent the grand total of £1 today on a pair of jeans. Dewhirst (M&S seconds shop) kindly sent me a £5 voucher so £6 jeans were £1 cash :D

DH made me buy some thermal socks too, but they are definitely 'underwear' as they are too ugly to show anyone :o

This shop is sometimes in my local paper. I have yet to go there but would like to. On Thursday they posted a website link :T and you can join up to the email newsletter. So maybe they'll send us some vouchers for the shop like Luxor got :j

    The website is www.impressions.uk.com

I never knew it was m+s seconds though, so i guess the quality is good as well :A

I haven't bought any clothes, i got gloves, but i dont think thats clothes is it, if so they were £1 :o

I have thermal socks to i got for xmas, they have ovals on, i like them :D
    :)

    Hiya

Does anyone know where i can get a coat from please. I know i have £100 for the year, but this is more then i normally spend on clothes in a life time :o

I have looked in Asda, i didnt see any i liked, or they were too long (i'm 5ft 1) and i have big boobs :o . The coats are too small it seems, or i just don't like them or they are aimed at the more mature lady. I'm 26 , my coats blue and really thin and horrible, i'd rather throw it into the bin then wear it if the truth be know. When i got my coat i didnt like it to begin with, and the hate has just got more and more and now i cant bare it any longer :rotfl:

Any advice on where to go, and not a coat that makes me look like a little dumpy thing :D

    Thanks :A
    :)

    Hi Jen-31

have a ((hug )) for the nasty coat... There is a person on this thread who maintains that a coat is not actually clothing :D & given the current climate I'm inclined to agree - it's an absolute essential , you absolutely cannot be cold & Barneysmom , sorry if I was too strict with you :o . If you are a lucky lady with your 'assets' but not too tall then I would go for something with buttons under your chest rather than on it & nipped in at the waist, rather than just straight. I also have great assets & am not much taller & this style suit me so much better than just a straight one as it give me the illusion of a figure rather than looking like a big pillow  Primark is always great value & Bay Trading often has stylish coats. I'm all excited for you... happy shopping & hurrah for coats not being clothes , sarahb : :T

A lot of the Dewhirst clothes are M&S but the labels are removed - fairly easy to spot which is which though. I've had some fantastic bargains, especially in the sales, & most are as good as perfect.

Sometimes, however, the fault is not immediately apparent: I once had a pair of jeans split from knee to knickers :o Must have been a flaw in the fabric, but I'd only paid £5 & worn them for 6 months,so no great loss!

There's a pile of cards by the till in my local for new customers to join the mailing list. You need to pop in regularly to check the rails as new stock comes in often.
I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.
  • Ooh could you add me to the list please?
I'd like to join this as I love a good bargain.

I bought 2 dresses the other day for £22 each - before I knew about this challenge. Do you think if I took them back (as I'm not sure about them) I could use the £44 I get back for emergencies?
    Debts May 09 [strike]£100 Od[/strike], [strike]£1550 boiler[/strike], [strike]£1750[/strike] £400 credit card  Goal - to 3k of savings by Oct 2009 in time for Baby num 2 :j Total so far £1200
  • Hey Jen-31, If you are looking for a coat that doesnt cost the earth - try a next clearence shop, you can get something from around £20 plus. If they still have their sale on then perhaps even cheaper.

Some of the high st stores still have some final sales that might be worth looking at.

What about Primark too? I dont know much abt the quality of their coats but style wise they do cater for a good age range. I managed to pick up a jacket from there last year for £5 and its lasted so well and you couldnt tell where it was from. :)
  • Unfortunately I'm quite sure I've been achieving this for years! ALL my clothes, apart from presents and underwear come from charity shops, even my shoes. I'm not overly interested in fashion, as long as I am comfortable, clean and tidy then I'm happy. I don't have a shoe or handbag fetish. Trailing around shopping centres on a Saturday morning is my idea of hell! So far this year I haven't spent a single penny on clothes, and I can't see that changing in the near future.
  • Can I join in please?

I made a new year's resolution to only buy secondhand this year - both for financial and ecological reasons, and because so much of the cheap stuff I buy is made in sweat shops in such horrendous conditions, my conscience couldn't take it anymore! I write a blo9g called Secondhand Shopper too - only seems right I should live up to the title!

I have bought two dresses in sales for the four weddings I have to attend in 2009, one from the Coast sale for £35 and one from the Laura Ashley Outlet sale for £24, BOGOF so actually £12, and I have put the BOGOF dress on Ebay so should hopefully make the money back. Does this £47 come out of my special occasion contingency? Hope so!

I have another question too. Can the £100 be boosted - for example, I cleared out my closet not long ago and put loads of stuff on Ebay. Can the money I made from selling old clothes on Ebay be used to buy new clothes? I hope so as have spent about £17 already this year out of my profits!
    :j :j :j DEBT-FREE JULY 2015! :j :j :j

Hello & welcome Yorkshirechick - will add you in before you change your mind ;) If you take the dresses back & get full refund then Ireckon you have a whole £100 to start again :D .

Fatpiggy - well done you :T I personally cant stand trailing round shopping centres on a saturday morning - it's my idea of hell also. I like to shop when it's quiet & I can take my time. I love charity shops as the range is so eclectic & there are such individual bargains to be had. I've just got back from one; took stuff in & amazingly didnt bring anything out with me ;)
