If you go to this web site.

    http://search.overdrive.com/

You can search for books or libraries.

I selected UK libraries and was presented with a list of libraries including my local!

The system supports epub. and there is software for PCs and handheld devices (Phones iphone and Android)

Not signed up yet. Just reading what I need to do to sign up....

There is a free project management ebook here which I found very useful when I was starting off in project management.

There's also a free project management book in Russian.
  • Smashwords have a bunch of free ebooks, such as this one.

On the previous posters commentss, if you own the paper copy of a book, is it illegal to download an electronic copy from a file sharing site?

Also, for those new to the Sony reader i can recommend calibre to convert most formats into the reader friendly e-pub format.

Thanks everyone for all the links - I received a Sony reader for Christmas. I have downloaded a couple of books from the library successfully having downloaded adobe and overdrive but wondered what I would need calibre for? Is it for other formats or just easier?

Both Hertfordshire and Bexley libraries lend ebooks and you just have to be a UK resident to join, not a local resident.
    www.herts.lib.overdrive.com and www.elibrary.bexley.gov.uk/rooms/

How do you join if you're not a local resident?

Brilliant - I am a hertfordshire resident (albeit one without a library card as yet). I'd never have thought you could borrow ebooks from the library - Thanks a million :T

That's wonderful news. :j My own public libraries don't do e-books yet so it will be terrific if I can use those libraries. Than you for posting that.:T

I managed to join Herts library so look forward to using that. I also found Kent libraries do ebooks and I'm already a member there. Found a good few last night.

If you search online, you can even find easy ways to get these epub books onto a Kindle.
  • not impressed - greenwich doesn't do e-book loans. that's not very considered of them.
