I have been trying to obtain quotes for myself plus 2 named drivers for car insurance. The quotes provided by compare the market.com state they do this. However, when I try to buy the insurance the companies concerned want much more money or refuse to insure.

Soooooooo what is going on here??

I inputted all the relevant details on Compare the Market and got quotes back - Hastings provided the cheapest quote - I clicked on the link to go to Hastings and the price increased immediately by over £7 - no changes took place - so therefore was no longer the cheapest - I tried the next cheapest and it did exactly the same - when clicking on the link to buy it takes you to the insurer and the price immediately increases. Very misleading. I can see it says if you ring to insure it will cost an additional premium but why this increase? Have now gone to Money Supermarket - it does not happen on that site

Hi, my renual with Shelia's wheels was £167.41 plus legal protection of £30 so total £197.41. Comparing like for like cheapest quote on compare the market was with Hastings Essential at £189.58 plus legal protection of £26.99, so total £216.57 . I called Shelia's wheels first to see if further discount but they said no. I also tried Be Wiser, they were more expensive again, even allowing for take off of legal protection/breakdown. Top cash back only allowed a cashback for new customers, so i feel I have spent enough time faffing round and just renued with Shelia's wheels. Hope this information useful;)

'Compare the market' provided only four quotes for home and contents insurance and the cheapest was only £0.56 cheaper than my renewal from Saga. Following the quotations there was a list of most of the insurers in the country who had not provided one. Very disappointing and a waste of my time.

quoted me £50 more for the same policy as going direct to company!!!

Tried Moneysupermarket, Comparethemarket, Confused and none of them provided me with a quote from my current home buildings insurer "Sheilas' Wheels" which was £10 cheaper than the cheapest quote from all the above when I went direct.

Followed the link and Martins advice to building insurance questions and got great quotes back . Tried the other compare sites and direct line but settled for quote from Comparethemarket that was HALF the price of my renewal quote. And got the 2 for 1 cinema vouchers for the next year also. Completed and paid for with no problems. Brilliant. :T :money:

I can't believe it!!! I was just about to renew my current policy, having tried one other company who were £500 more expensive, than my original policy, but after getting an email from Money Saving Expert I thought I may as well try it - and the cheapest quote came in at nearly £600 cheaper -plus £200 off the policy excess!! Just want to say a MASSIVE thankyou!!

Following sudden cancellation of my motor policy I did the rounds of the comparison sites.

CTM beat everyone with a quote for Quotemehappy.

But what an awful experience. Website blasted an ad for a superhero film at me while it selected quotes, a process that magically took exactly the same time as the advert took to play.

Emails for password confirmation didn't arrive despite requesting many, many times so I had to go through the whole quote process twice when my session expired.

On the plus side, if they can't email me account details maybe they can't spam me either. As if.

I felt the need to write a quick post after reading your reviews and seeing Compare the Market number 4 in your choices, I ran a quick test of my own and as I thought Compare the Market came back with the cheapest quote.

I personally have found their site the easiest to use and the most pleasing to the eye. I have used this site for my home insurance, car insurance critical illness cover for a number of years now and I can only say good things, however it has drastically improved over the years.

Our Alexander & Baby Oleg collections are out of hand, ha!
