Comparethemarket's Insurance feedback

Number of concerns here - firstly I should have checked here before using Comparethemarket as I am now getting loads of calls everyday from companies that came up on the site but I have no intention of using. Secondly, I think price should not be the overriding consideration. I suggest a quick google search to check out the insurers customer service - in the event you have a claim you'll be pleased you paid a few quid more to get service that is there for you and can deal effectively. Some of the smaller cheaper companies have appalling reviews on how they deal with claims. Finally, why is that on every quote comparison I tried the cheapest quote is always from QuoteMart which is part of BISL, the same group that owns Comparethemarket - strange that. in future I will do as I finally did this time and research the market myself rather than be at the mercy of a company that seems to have its primary interest in getting a whole stack of personal info and passing it on for money to others.0

I tried a number of comparison sites brfore using CTM. Theirs were cheaper than the others and after tweaking the quote and talking to an agent I bought insurance.
When the documents came though the cover was not what was shown on the CTM confirmation of the quote (accidental damage was missed off - even though I requested it on CTM and it was shown on the list of quotes with a big tick). When I phoned the company they deafed me out and wanted to charge an extra £40 to add it. They also said I had ticked a box saying I had a 5 year no claim even though I had written in the details of the claim. On checking back this was not the case.
Curiously I went to another company Insure.co.uk on the list and found that they too had me down a ticking this box and they too offered a Paragon policy. By the way if I have this right, Insure are part of the Churchill Group owned by RBS as are Privilege. They also do Tesco and Age concern (but it may have all changed).
The first company told me if I had discovered this after the start date of the policy they would have charged me (or tried to) £30 odd for an administration fee (whatever happened to the cooling off period?).
So next year I will start the process early, read all the policy details before I commit, and order in good time to ensure I can do the whole thing again if the policy confirmation is wrong. I bet lots of people don't check this stuff.0 -
This week i began a search for a new contents insurance policy through Compare The Market. I selected the best option which appeared to be Endsleigh (which made note of the fact that they specialise in contents insurance for shared households). The Compare The Market details were pulled into the Endsleigh site which then went straight to payment, without allowing you to review the details they've taken across. I paid my deposit and checked through the policy details. I noticed 3 major mistakes: my address, details of an imaginary partner that i don't have and a statement that i lived with family only, despite the fact that I share with my housemate.
I immedately rang Endsleigh who told me i would have to wait 24 hours before they could make any changes, and that they couldn't advise me whether the family misinformation would affect the amount i had to pay.
When i called again today they updated the information and gave me a new quote which was over £300 more expensive. They also said that they have constant problems with Compare the Market and that the information is rarely pulled in properly. Although when he checked the information he said that it had come through that i was in a non-family shared household but that they hadn't taken that into account in the quote.
Needless to say i have cancelled this policy but as far as I can see there are problems with the service that Compare The Market are offering, and insurance sites should be giving consumers the opporunity to review the info pulled across before they are asked for payment.
I also don't understand why it costs £300 more for me to insure £15000 of contents when i share my flat with a friend i have known for 12 years and lived with for over 6 years, as opposed to any family member or boyfriend, especially through a company who are recommended as specialising in non-family house shares!!!!!0 -
Used Compare The Market for my Contents Insurance quote - did all the ones in the list on this site first! - and they came up with the best price for what I wanted.
I tweaked various options that some other sites forced me to have to produce a proper comparison between them and I ended up using CTM as they still gave me the best value.
Saved over £100! which I am very pleased about.
Did not have any of the issues others seem to have had, all details went through to the company I actually bought off correctly and I only needed a slight tweak to the Excess element.0 -
Just been on the CTM site and saved £270 by going with Halifax instead of my Current Direct Line.
Cheers MSE :money: for pointing me in the right direction...

I have a 98 Honda Civic with v low mileage which the insurance comparison site valued at £395. Probably no point in altering that value because that is probably what I get for it in a right off but the point is that the first quote gave a total excess of £400 and the others weren't very much better so quite what is the point of insurance apart from it being a legal requirement.0

Tried to apply for home insurance and found issues with:
- No option for the second policy holder to work part time
- No option to enter details if we have past claims history
Shame that on Martin's site this is the first comparison option for people that have made past claims.0 -
Simpler than it used to be, it had the cheapest results of all the comparison sites AND I get a baby Oleg! win/win0

Just spent a while going through the hassle of comparison sites with my GF for her car insurance.
comparethemarket gave the best quote, from Admiral, at £380. But when I clicked on Buy and got taken to the Admiral website, without entering or changing any other details, the price had magically jumped up to £550.
What a waste of time.0
