You will need to fill out a customs declaration as well and falsyfying one of those is actually a serious offence as you are defrauding HMRC.
I get what you're saying, sending as printed papers but writing "laptop" on the customs declaration may get twigged by the post office worker.. but it may not. ..and if it's not?

Why risk it, look for a courier it will be cheaper anyway.

I'm afraid the cheapest courier I've found is £5 more expensive, plus they will deliver only to a business address.

I hope this isn't an ebay item BTW as you are unlikely to get s afe address for paypal purposes anyway, so my fear is that not withstanding defruading HMRC you potentially stand to lose the item, and then won't be able to claim because you will be claiming for a laptop when your receipt will show it was actually printed papers.

International signed for doesn't guarantee a signature, and certainly in Russia is not likely to have it visible online, so bang goes your paypal protection. Also assuming you are looking at a boxed weight of approx 2.8kg it is going to cost you £22.35 (£19.85 postage and £2.50 insurance). That's a lot to lose to gamble saving a few pounds on using a courier and declaring the contents properly.

Actually you did..a false declarion is defrauding HMRC and technically carries a custodial sentence.

Check out the long courier thread on this forum and find a legal way of doing this, or maybe stick to a UK buyer.

Please point out where I said I would make a false declaration.

What's the difference? I mean, if the weight and dimensions are fine (I'm thinking of sending an old laptop) - what's wrong with sending it as International Signed For Printed Papers?
