I go with my prescription to direct specs. They measure you and fit them for you. Just don't do the sight test. Last time I got my varifocals there I think they were about £50 complete. I am not sure whether they are a chain or not.

I think they do this at the end of each year, they usually do free contact lenses aswell once every 3 months or so

I got to my local optician and pay £55 for a full eyetest - much more comprehensive than Specsavers or Vision Express. I then go to my local http://directspecs.co.uk/ branch and pay about £60 for a pair of varifocals. Best of both worlds.
