Cancelling AOL

Anyone know how?
In december, I emailed them to cancel (cancel@aol.co.uk) and they obviously did nothing as I was billed for december and January.
I dont have a copy of the email I sent unfortunately.
Is this the correct email address to send to? If so, what info do they need? And can I dispute this payment with my credit card payment?

BroadbandProvUK@Aol.com or 08703202020 or 08002006254 or 02073488000
I think they want 30 days notice.
Hope this helps https://www.saynoto0870.com0 -
Cool. But is the email address correct? As I need to contest the fact they have charged me. I signed up to their dialup one month offer while I was waiting for broadband to be put in, so I think you only need to cancel before the offer expires. They have charged me for two extra months!0

Looking at the AOL Anytime free trial T&C's, there is no mention of that email address. You should have called 0870 320 2020 to cancel the service before the end of your first month online.
Under the ADSL T&C's the email address quoted is canceluk@aol.com (see under section What if I order AOL Broadband and then change my mind?).0 -
good luck with this!!
i tried for 9 months to cancel AOL as I had never been able to access it since the day it was set up!!! because the monthly £17.99 fee was an automated payment, I couldnt even cancel the this!
i called customer services, who, when i eventually got through, frequently cut me off. Whe I finally spoke to somebody, I had lost my sign up user name, and they made no attempt to help recover this or take alternative verification.
i emailed them numerous times too. Meanwhile, my otherwise unused bank account became overdrawn because of the £17.99 coming out each month and a £30 charge from Lloyds as there were no funds in the account!
i finally sent a letter to the complaints dept and received an offer of £96 compensation in 'full and final settlement' - i took this as was so glad to end the nightmare! :j
put your cancellation request in writing and address to the complaints department manager. i also sent my letter recorded delivery - this may have helped
good luck:A0 -
I made the big mistake of cancelling AOL by email as I was fed up with being put on hold and having to listen to rubbish music while I was waiting. I said in the email I was cancelling my subscription and expected an email in reply as I still had 2 weeks left of my monthly payment. Silly me!!! When I went to log on the next day I found a message waiting for me saying my account was no longer in use and to ring the Customer Services number. I did this and spoke to a rude and obnoxious man in India who told me that I shouldn't have emailed them - that I should have phoned them- that my account was now dead and he couldn't reinstate it because I had cancelled Broadband. So next I rang their Billing Dept. also in India but I was lucky this time and spoke to a nice lady who confirmed that I still had 2 weeks left, she put me back on line but on DSL not on Broadband.
The upshot of all this is I can't get a MAC and my contract will be finished with AOL in the next few days. So I won't be able to go to a new IP because I haven't got a MAC. It's a nightmare and I don't know what to do next!!0 -

i have written god knows how many letters and tried to talk to aol by phone after i cancelled with them over 1 year ago as my phoneline was cut off. i had been with aol for 1yr and a half at the time. yet 6 months ago i recieved a letter from them telling me i owe them 105 pound??? i dont know where this amount came from as i paid by direct debit every month and on time? please can someone give me advice as i have been sent a letter from the debt agency they deal with demanding i pay this money!!0

Interesting thread, I though I had cancelled my AOL account in July 2008, I asked for a MAC Code, to move ISP's, told them I was cancelling, then in March this year I started to get letters, I phoned and went through everything, they confirmed the cancellation. Today I get a red letter from a debt collection agency.
After you request a MAC code, you MUST go back to AOL again and confirm your cancellation request. If you don't they think you have not cancelled the account.

Similar happened to me I emailed to cancel no response so called them got my mac code that way. This was in Dec 08 then last week got a debt collection letter for £70 !
I emailed AOL and fair play got a quick response saying it was a mistake and that I owed them nothing.I forwarded the email to the debt collection agency and so far no further letters.0
