Laptop starting up but no screen??

If you've had it connected to the internet then you might have had a corrupted windows update. Assuming your Acer does the same as my own, try pressing F8 on bootup and choose Repair. It should then give you an option of going back to a restore point. Choose one from a time you know it was working ok and it should hopefully boot up to windows okay after.

Sorry for the late reply, this is what worked. I did a restore point back a few days and it restarted itself and came back on so thank you so much!! My mum was ready to take to the shop to be sorted so I guess you saved her a few quid!!
