  • i agree with gilbert ( again) all of the things that you have done to your car are all to be expected. they are all wear and tear items that have limited lifetime.
the shockers should be good for another few years, the timing belt wont need done till the next recommended interval which will be a good few thousand miles away.
you also have a new clutch and new exhaust that will give plenty of life. maybe not the same as the original ones but still years of motoring.
and a brake fluid problem, possibly a leak or a scheduled fluid change is not much to worry about.
i would definatly keep the puma after doing all this preventative maintenance to it.
it sounds as if you actually look after,so keep a hold of it untill you start to get major faults.
    ...work permit granted!
  • normal costs , things wear out on all cars sooner or later

please dont get a streetka , no car that ugly should be on the roads in 2008
  • Hi

There's nothing out of the ordinary there, just normal maintenance and replacement of wear and tear items.

Doesn't sound a duff motor to me.

Was gonna say the same thing, nothing on that list thast you would not expect to have to spend owning a car of that age to keep it in good condition. Keep it and get the benifit of your money youv'e just spent. Don't give it away and let the next owner get free motoring:money:
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed
  • Thanks folks. Guess I was just flapping abit. Can't afford to be without a car basically. I know I would miss the Puma if I got rid of it. Just need to spend more time keeping it clean :o (like I used to when I first bought it).

I spent a load on mine recently, however, prior to that I was thinking of changing. After shelling out a little over £500 I thought I now need to keep it as that expense has just added to the cost of ownership since I bought it. So, I want to keep mine (a Smart car) until the costs from the repairs are evened out by keeping it. So I have promised myself I will keep it until late next year and get rid before Xmas 09.. I will need something bigger then anyway,
  • Hi again

Your car, after the service items done above, is in a good order and when it needs next big amount spending, the car will be worth less than a £1000 or £500

The camblet should last you 5 years or 80,000 miles whichever comes first ( I assume it is 1.7 engine, if not, it should last 10 yrs or 100,000 miles!)
The clutch should be ok for another 5 years or 70,000 miles.
The shocks should over last the car's remaining life!
The exhaust, brake fluid and the tyres are good for at least another two years.
I assume the front suspension bushes are replaced by the previous owner, if not, don't worry, it is not a big job.

I have a PUMA myself and I love every single mile I do :D . It is a nice little car with a lot of feel good factor  and 00 mph :A I have spent over £500 replacing the cambelt and the water pump with a full service including the brake fluid and coolant change. 4 Tyres a year ago. Brake pads and suspension bushes the year before. I am still happy!:rotfl:

Why not join us at www.pumapeople.com ? We a friendly group of sados who are in love with their pumas so much so we call it a kat! and the roaring sound of the engine is the purring! :o Hope to see you round there.

    Happy New Year everyone!

    Two words. Toyota MR2.

Edit - reason being the engines can take a good thrashing, insurance is cheap (£300 full comp for 26yr old wife), very reliable, look and go much better than a streetka, will hold value...
