I work in highways development control and the current dimensions we work to are 2.4m x 5m for a single garage and 5.5m x 5m for a double garage....
These standards haven't changed for a number of years and the average public car parking space is 2.4m x 4.8m but assumes that a car door will open into the next car parking space and therefore the operational space is shared....
That doesn't make sense. If a single parking space is 2.4m wide but assumes the car door will open into the adjacent parking space, why is a single garage 2.4m wide?? If a double garage is 5.5m wide, why isn't a single garage at least half this?0 -
Yes but only just - and I am able to get out of my car even if the door is only open by about six inches. I have a Skoda Fabia.
OH has a BMW Z4 and while it will just about fit in you can onlythen get out of it if you put the roof down and scramble over the top!
We park on the drive and road and use the garage as storage.:cool: DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :cool::heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j

I can get out of my 4x4 in our garage but then our house was only built in 1996 so that could make the difference.
I personally no longer use the garage as it is full to the rafters with the kids outdoor toys but I know my son parks his car in it and he has no problems getting in or out - electric powered Audi and hes 7:rotfl:The shinbone is a device for finding furniture in a dark room.:TBig thanks to all competition posters:T0 -
I park my 206 in ours and can still get out, depending how close i park to the left side wall i can get alot of space to get out easily but if i dont get close to the wall i can still get out0

I have a self-standing brick and slate garage and can comfortably fit my Hyundai Terracan into it, the biggest advantage apart from lower insurance and avoiding theft and vandalism is listening to people at work saying how long they spent defrosting their cars and knowing I just backed mine out and set off with perfectly clear windows!A problem shared is a problem multiplied.0

No problem getting car in and out of garage or storing loads of junk in there - however we do have a Smart car so that could be why...Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Our old flat was a Sixties build with detached garages and I struggled to get my Kia Picanto in and out of it - the doors opened about four inches before hitting concrete. I used to climb out through the boot. That must have given the neighbours a laugh.
Now in a street without a garage, driving a motorbike which fits through the garden gate. Much less hassle."All cruelty springs from weakness" - Lucius Annaeus SenecaPersonal pronouns are they/them/their, please.
I'm intolerant of wheat, citrus, grapes, grape products and dried vine fruits, tomato, and beetroot, and I am also somewhat caffeine sensitive.0
