HI
Currently with plusnet and have been for over a year.
Has anyone managed to negotiate a cost lower than £14.99 per month? I do download everynow again and it just seems to take ages!
Is there anyone else out there who does 2mg or better at a lower price which doesn't slow down the download speeds?
Also, do i simply cancel and sign up with a new provider if i want to leave?
thanks

I think you will do well to beat £14.99 per month.
I am with Plusnet too, and have been for about 8 years.
Can't fault them.0 -
£14.99 is the lowest but you can get discounts for customer referals.
I guess you are on the Broadband Plus package? They can drop the download speed for large downloads and P2P during peak periods on this account. Try downloading off peak (like overnight).
If you want top of the range speed, go for the PAYG option. You pay for what you use but downloads go as fast as your line can handle.
If you want to leave, just ask Plusnet for a MAC code which you can use to transfer your broadband to a different ISP. Many of them don't charge if you are migrating with a MAC code.0 -
Watch out for the deferred setup costs if you took advantage of a 'free setup' deal when you joined. You have to pay these costs back, on a sliding scale - you are only free to leave PN without repaying these charges after 5 years.redzak wrote:Also, do i simply cancel and sign up with a new provider if i want to leave?0 -
I think the defered costs are reasonable as they have made an outlay to get you enabled at the exchange etc. However, the modem cost of £25 after one year is a bit steep these days.
Just signed my folks up with Plusnet and declined their modem and bought a 2 port router for £19.99.
Still have the sliding scale for the free setup costs though. Something like £47 after one year and drops £8 per year.0 -
Just be aware, if you do want to move away, remember the timing of getting MAC code is important because they ask for 30 day notice!!!!!!
Learn from the mistakes of others - you won't live long enough to make them all yourself.0 -
Are all isp's the same when regarding charging when you leave? Waz looking for broadband anf didn't know they charged when you left? I might aswell pay for a connection then?Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0

My ISP (Zen Internet) doesn't charge a penny to leave them. Minimum 1 month contract also. It's £40 to sign up as a new customer, but if you migrate in from another ISP it's free. How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?
