Hi never been in this section before so im presuming you are all clever on here!!
we want to upsize to a 40inch lcd, presume HD will be on it regardless,we are not bothered if its there or not, just use it for Wii and watching tv.Not bothered about brand name either, i have been told that 720p is adequate and there is no need to pay for 1080p coz that is only needed on a blu-ray or psp unit.
any ideas folks..ps cheapest deals are obviously the best for me! i have done loads of comparisons but think i would prefer what you lot have to say about tvs to be honest!

I have just got one of the 42LG7000 sets from Currys, and it looks and performs very well.
Might be worth a look at.0 -
I originally ordered one from Dixons which was cancelled to to stock problems, then ordered one from Currys for delivery in approx 14 days as all branches within a 50 mile radius were showing as no stock.
Went into local branch of Currys Digital (which showed no stock on web) and they had 5 in stock.
Chap in shop assisted me to cancel web order and took set home yesterday.
It might be worth checking branches physical stock rather than relying on web.0 -
I've just bought a 40" Sony KDL40W4000 and it's extremely good. It does do 1080, but I consider that future-proofing. After much auditioning the only obvious other contender was a Samsung which looked very good but just not quite up to the Sony's standard.
Hope that's some help.0 -
any particular reason you specifed LCD or is that just a sort of generic term for flat screen - there are other options.
Would recommend you consider one of the PX80 panasonics available in 37" and 42" - generally considered the best value for money, with brilliant PQ, black levels, natural colours etc - its a plasma not LCD, and 720p is fine for most people
try looking up some reviews on those - either 37PX80 or 42PX800 -

Richer Sounds have just had a mass sale on these ~ but worth asking if theyre getting anymore in surely

Whoever told you it must be a PSP should be shot though!:idea:0 -
WOW Thanks for info .how much were all these tvs that you have bought/seen though, i do have a limit of 550 but hubbys budget is 650!!:rotfl:
i dont actually like tvs,so the bigger they get the more gaudy they are to me! we have 37" at mo on wall,so i dont want bigger than 40,although DH would fill the bloody wall with tv given chance!;)
i am informed that plasma use a lot of elec compared to lcd and the chap who told me 1080 is only needed if you have a Blu-ray or psp connected to tv, was from currys tv dept...is he not right?TO FINISH LAST, FIRST YOU HAVE TO FINISH....0 -

erm. Why go from 37" to 40"??
What have you got now?
Maybe you missheard the currys guy. Did he not say a PS3? (A psp would look awful on a big screen). A plasma does use more electricity. Though theres generally not a hugh deal in them (And its more down to how much of the backlight is on the LCD its compared to). If say a LCD uses 200 Watts then the Plasma would be around 260 Watts (all dependent on manufacturer and model etc)
The Sony I posted is the best LCD your going to get for the price (And it was originally 900 quid as indicated in the review!!):idea:0
