Back on topic, does the gift receipt have a date of purchase, or if they scan the barcode it should tell them the date of purchase. Surely the till should be programmed accordingly as to how much vat was paid when it was purchased. i.e Pre Dec 1st or not?0

My Uncle (who lives in the US) ordered a shirt for me as a gift, costing £29.50. When it was delivered I decided to return it. Bluewater M&S gave me £22.71 off some items I was purchasing and said that I needed to claim the rest back by calling M&S online CS. I rang and they said they would post me the difference as either a cheque or Gift Vouchers, whichever I prefer. Both the CS in Bluewater and on the phone were really friendly and nice0

Staff can make mistakes yes, but alot of this is due to what the tills come up with.
I've got to say, you'll get no where shouting at staff whatsoever, because we can literally do nothing. The amount of customers who have ruined my day by screaming at me about things I simply cannot deal with is unreal.
Oh and the woman who threw a newspaper at me because I pointed out that I could not do a refund at my till.Dooyoo £10.40/40, TopCashBack £17.19/30, Valued Opinions 50p/£10, Swagbucks 0/£20, Ebay £15/£250 -

For some reason on M&S tills it didn't do that, and SA's have to do the refund then work out the VAT aswell.Dooyoo £10.40/40, TopCashBack £17.19/30, Valued Opinions 50p/£10, Swagbucks 0/£20, Ebay £15/£250 -

I've had a few bad run ins with M&S CS staff, but I also have to say my experience of Bluewater CS staff were great, very friendly & nice even in the January sales when I was returning items! Makes a difference to all the other useless staff in shops everywhere! And this is coming from a Sales Assistant herself until a few months ago!! I am disgusted by the way some staff treat customers who are spenging their own hard earned money which will soon become part of their wages! Retail is on dodgy ground at the moment, customers should be treated like royalty!:TI'm getting older, and lifes getting harder!:mad:0 -
I placed a large online order on Xmas Eve. The VAT adjustment was made on the total value of the order i.e. not on each individual item. I returned a pair of shoes the other day. Pre-VAT adjustment price was £35. When I returned them I was given back only £33.95. When I questioned it, the assistant said that was what the till was telling her. I accepted it, as there was a big queue, but decidde to check it when I got home. I calculated how much I should have had back and it should have been £34.26.
Last night I emailed M&S and have just got a reply. They have apologised and credited my account with £5. However, I am taking more items back today, and suspect that I will get the same situation repeated.
My theory is that the programmers who altered the till systems as a result of the VAT change have made an error in their calculations. If I'm correct, this will be making M&S quite a bit of money, and lots of customers are being given lower refunds than they should be.0 -
I have spent days trying to work out how M&S arrive at the VAT reduced prices they are now charging and also refunding as I have come a cropper quite a few times at the returns counter this week, especially for items bought before the VAT changed.
In my opinion it should be the selling price minus17.5% and then plus 15% but M&S are not using this method. They have used a 97% reduction against all their prices whether they are sale prices or not. Where they got 97% reduction from God only knows, but try it and see!0 -
Yes - you're right, but on refunds only. They have used a different calculation on sales. They are pocketing the difference. Wonder if they know? :rolleyes:0
