Also, do you think they would call up to ask the following:
    • prooving that she is British
    • prooving that she lives at the current address
    • asking why my daughter didn't register in her previous address?
I am asking this, as my daughter's last name sounds 'foreign', so questions might be asked...
You seem to be being very paranoid about this. (Sorry!)

Can you daughter prove her identity? Can she prove her current address? (for example: does she have a bank statement from that savings account you said she had with her address on? or is she named on your council tax bill?) Yes? Then she can take those documents down to the branch of the desired bank and open a basic account.

    Yes.

By the way, those 3 questions are actually about the voters roll application, and not about the bank account. :p

    Thanks for your reply.

She did not have a 'normal/student bank account', as I didn't open one for her. She also didn't talk to me about opening one.

My daugher wants a basic bank account, either one from Barclays, LTSB, or Natwest. She doesn't want a graduate account, as she told me that she won't use the features/benefits.

I assume the banks will open a basic bank account for her then, even though she was not the voters roll during the past 3 years at the uni residence address, and now on the voters roll at the current address. Am I correct?

Why don't you give your daughter a start in life and encourage her to do things for herself? Why is it not her responsibility to open up her own bank account, get herself on the electoral roll, and go searching internet forums for advice about it all?

And why are you giving her £400 allowance?

well said, surfcat! this is what i picked up on too.. considering she has been to university, i assume that she would have some sense of direction. did you pick her uni course for her too?

I was also a bit confused about this. Your daughter is graduating so is presumably 20/21 at least; Also I am unsure as to how she has managed without any kind of bank account as a student as student loan payments are paid by BACS I thought, in general? I mean, she might have had a post office account or not had ANY grant or loan but that would mean you have funded your child through uni in cash. In entirety. Which on its own is just bizarre!

Her student loan and grant is deposited into her savings account. This account has a cash card to withdraw money.

    Update:

My daughter is on the voters roll now. She called up the council up for confirmation. She went to LTSB to open a 'Cash Account', due to her being on job seekers allowance, as she can't find a job after graduation (as mentioned before). The bank can't see her on the voters roll on their system and on the credit reference agency system. What I think is that the council hasn't forwarded my daughter's details yet. Therefore, she was declined.

Now my daughter applied to Barclays for their basic bank account (Cash Card account), and got accepted, even though they did a voters roll check and still can't find her on there. At the bottom of the application form, it says 'we will complete a voters roll check. If you are not on this, we will write to you to confirm where you live, and open your account when you reply'. After she replied to the letter that was sent to her from the bank, the account was opened. Very flexible of Barclays!
