I just go on about how old and wrinkly some people look if I get comments about my weight. That usually works if they're older. Especially as it's easier to lose weight than lose wrinkles.0

Congratulations on the weight loss!! I admire your will power.
My Mum has always been like that. I get, "you're big boned," "you should cut down on cakes/biscuits/sweets," "no wonder you're becoming a fattie". I learnt to ignore it as she's said to me since I was a teenager. I take clothes sized 10 and upwards - so I'm not exactly big compared with the UK average of 16.
As suggested by Bestpud, I saw it as a reflection on herself, rather than anything to do with me. I think looking at me just reminds her of how she once looked and she's sort of critising herself for piling on the weight. She has had kids so I think it's just normal.
I didn't say anything when I lived at home. We had a massive fall out a while back and now I will growl at any ridulous thing that leaves her lips.
I really, really understand how hard it is but in order to keep your sanity you need to just focus on other things, like enjoying life.0 -
Both myself and Mum are overweight - off to slimming world in New Year with a friend who has recently started there and recommended it.
My Gran (Mum's mum) knows we want to lose weight so at Christmas she brought boxes of biscuits, chocolates, cakes! She always does. If we lose weight she actually sends us more food - classic diet sabotager!
So today I boxed up all those food stuffs she brought us at Xmas and am taking them to the Sally Army centre :rotfl:
One of my faves she comes out with is when she is describing someone else overweight 'And they are really big...even bigger than you'!!!0 -
I know exactly how you feel, my mum is exactly the same. I am very overweight and am concerned about it. The past 2 years plus I have tried and treid everything to lose weight, weight watchers etc even slimming pills prescribed by my doctor but the most I have lost is 3 or 4 lbs. I have a very healthy diet and we never buy cakes, biscuits, sweets etc at home. We cook everything ourselves so no ready made foods etc but whatever I try I just can't lose weight. Earlier this year I was diagnosed with a beign tumour on my pituitary gland which the doctors now think may be part of the reason I can't lose weight.
I got married last year and up to the wedding my Mum, Dad and brother all lost stones of weight before but I couldn't. My day was spent with all friends and family admiring their weightloss making me feel even more of a failure!
Every single time I see her she gives me the lectures, I feel if I so much as even look at something I shouldn't eat she comes down on me. A couple of months ago she excelled herself by drawing up a weekly meal plan and emailing it to me! She point blank refuses to accept that I can't lose weight. About 10 years ago I was overweight and lost about 3 stone to get down to a size 12 but she seems to have forgotten this when I say I have done it before so I do know how to lose weight! It is incredibly hurtful especially when you usually feel low about it yourself it just adds insult to injury.
You have done fantastically well in losing weight and your Mum should be supporting you and encouraging you. How many people don't gain a few pounds at Christmas with all the parties and celebrations! (I will say having spent the entire Christmas with my Mum and family watching everyone else over indulge whilst I refrained I have not gained any weight at all, but that will have gone unnoticed).0
