I'm really baffled as to why it only happens the once, the first switch on of the day. I can shut down, leave it for hours and switch back on and it doesn't happen.
It never cools down the same as leaving it overnight.0 -
I've had what sounds like the same problem. It was the case fan, it ran OK but was noisy at startup. As Lorian says, peel back the sticky label on the centre of the fan, there will probably be a rubber bung in the middle, prise this out and squirt some WD40 or light oil onto the end of the shaft. Start with the biggest fans and work your way down until it stops!0

I uplugged all the fans and started up this afternoon. (Sorry, shout have put that in original post). And it was still happening.
I know this is OT but can anyone tell me what my CPU temperature should be? PC's been on since around 6ish, just surfing, and everest says my PU temperature is 58°C. Is that to high?Sigless0 -
Systems vasry but that doesn't sound hot
You need to isolate the noise - which is difficuktesp if it low freq - there is an old mechanics trick. Get a srewdriver or some other solid insulated tool and touch a noisy component - place one end to your ear - it helps islotae the noise like a stehoscopeTANSTAAFL !0 -
Thanks, I have no idea if thats hot of not. I get a bit paranoid because on my old system the CPU fan went and it blew and with this noise I'm over worried incase it happens again.
Ill try that with the screw driver tomorrow, thanks.
If its the fan in the PSU, whats the worse that can happen? Am I best replacing it now, just in case or waiting a while?
Agh, damn computers lol.Sigless0 -
Unplugged all fans before starting up today and tried the trick with the screw driver. Noise seems to be coming fro the PSU.
Is it as simple a job as it seems to replace this? And how do I know what one to get?
thanksSigless0 -
You can pick em up dirt cheap, all you have to do is remove some cables that you will
mark with a felt tip then take a picture of the insides....
The PSU has a rating on it just have a look and then get one online or from a shop
they are easy to take out usually 4screws holding it in place, just make sure you turn the pCs power off before removing covers.

There is a fan in the PSU, could it be that? If you can get at it and lube it as per my original post it may save you a few quid.0
