What's a Mondeo Ghai 2 litre TDCi worth??

Hi,

Just after some advice on what a 55 reg mondeo 115 bhp 110K miles is worth. The car is an ex company car hence the high mileage - my mate bought it off autotrader back in Sept 08 for £3,100 and now wants to sell it to me for £3,200 as he has since paid £200 for a full service.

The car is silver and very good condition but have a medium size dent just next to the driver's wing mirrior. It was 100K miles when he bought it and has added another 10K since.

I have more or less decided on a 55/56 reg mondeo - mileage not very important but was looking to spend about £2.5K max. I reckon I could pick one up for that price at a BCA auction at either Walsall or Derby. Am I realistic in picking one up for 2.5K or should I just get it from my mate for 3.1K and save the hassle of venturing off to an auction. He is willing to sell his car to me because he knows that I am after a mondeo and that he wants to upgrade to a 130bhp.

this is an estate which usually sell for a bit more, and im sure you could haggle on this price.
theres plenty to choose from out there so dont be held to ransom by a supposed mate.
serviced or not,he has put 10k miles on the car. a service adds no value to a vehicle in my opinion at this kind of mileage/price,all it would mean to me is a reason to choose that over another at the same price.and as you have also said its got a dent on it.this would wipe out the extra £100 he wants.

  • Your friend has had it for 3 months and wants to sell it already? I hope you don't value your friendship.

Just as much as I thought - already told him that I was going to shop around and seek advice before deciding - looking to buy the car in 2nd/3rd week of next month. As mentioned I will be looking to go down the auction route and pick up a fleet/ex company car.

I'd buy the one from the eBay Stealer that Goldie posted. Dealer = warranty, your mate = sweet FA.

Not at 110,000 miles. It'll have been done 25-30k ago. However, aux belt tensioner pulley might need changing. Bearing in mine has just gone and I'll be finding out how much of a trousering that'll be next week.

Apart from that, they're not bad motors and wear the mileage well.

  • What's DMF?

I am definitely not going to pick one up off a private sale auction at BCA rather at a fleet auction such as lex, RBS etc. Will be even prepared to folk out another grand for a later reg or better condition.

What should I look out for at the auction - will be going for ones with full service history for starters - What else?

Is the Zetec a better range than the Ghai? Will 115 bhp as oppose to 130bhp mean much more fuel? I do about 250 miles per week on mainly A roads and my current pegueot 206 2 litre HDI burns out £25 quid per week. Ideally I am looking for the car to have a similar consumption.

My mate let me test drive his Ghai and it was a lovely drive amazed with all the extras you get on a mondeo.

Now the burning question is - will it be a Ghai or a zetec/115 or 130 bhp?

    Help guys
