Need some help in buying an upgraded mobile
I am a "know nothing" about mobiles and at present have a Motorola V547 on the Tesco (02) PAYG tariff. The phone is beginning to lose its charge with occasional flashes of "Unable to charge" appearing so I think it's time to upgrade. I had a look at Tesco and the choice is bewildering. Basically I want a phone to make phone calls:rolleyes: ( don't need the mp3 player and suchlike) and want quad band coverage so I can use it overseas. Most of the phones I have seen are very small with tiny keypads, and I would like to have something a bit bigger because of failing eyesight. Can anyone point me in the right direction please?

You can buy a replacement battery from ebay for a few £. Or Orange has a sale now http://shop.orange.co.uk/shop/show/offer/discount
I got a samsung f210 for £28.50 with £10 airtime thanks to an OP on this forum. Quidco gets £5 cashback too making it £23.500 -
Do you need quad band (for Asia etc) or just tri-band (for Europe and US). Most new phones are at least tri-band although you are better off buying local SIMs for use abroad as it's much cheaper.
There are so many phones about that it is nearly impossible to suggest one model. Phones4U have a basic model Nokia (I think) for about £20 which includes £10 call credit.0 -
Tri band phones are usually sufficient.....I used an unlocked tri-band phone is vietnam (asia) , popped a local sim in there all fine.0

look at the samsung m150 (about £25), buttons are spaced out nicely, also dual band will be surface unless you plan to go to USA.0

it was quite clear who my "pardon" reply was referring to ...
Hello Hansi
Unfortunately it was not clear who you were referring to as you hadn't used the quote function (as above), so I can see why ArsenalFC was perplexed.
Anyhoo, I'm also not sure why Edinburghlass wishes to delete lovelynikki's posts as they seem to me to just be offering suggestions.
Of course, as you have already explained in first post, you aren't familiar with mobile phone terminology so I can also see why you would ask (by saying "Pardon?") for her suggestions to be repeated in a more user-friendly way.
As I read her post, she is referring to a Nokia N73, which has a large key pad, and then some others that have a QWERTY style (like your computer) key pad for email or texts etc if you have trouble seeing or using very small keys. This of course would only be worth considering if you send emails / lots of texts from your mobile.
As I mentioned in my previous post, if you can, get out to a couple of phone shops and talk to the people there (don't be pressured into buying anything), and if you're not using the phone much, get a nice, simple straightforward basic phone for under £40. Don't worry if it comes with extras such as bluetooth, video, MP3 etc, if you don't want them then just don't use them.
I picked up a PAYG phone the other day for £39 that has loads of stuff on it, the cheapest I saw was about £10 (& another £10 call credit).0 -
