Eek I'm a greedy b**ger then! I put three chicken breasts into a curry for me and DH LOL!! One and a half chops each. And three sausages each!! No wonder I'm fat!
:p I use one chicken breast to make a curry, or sweet and sour, jambalaya etc, to feed two adults plus DS (18 months). Obviously there is veg and rice too of course. Pork is one chop each (with a bit taken off each for DS), and I normally have two sausages (small ones, one if big), DH 2-3 and DS 1. Does this mean I am stingy ? :o

No it probably means you are healthy and slim not apple shaped like me!

I don't put veg in curry other than tinned toms and onions as OH would moan. What veg would you put in? OH excludes ALL pulses from the menu!!

  • Mmm well one isnt a lot! I sttle for 2 and sometimes 3 if they are cheapies and Im really hungry. Def only one on the pork chops though. Chicken breast really depends on size-as with legs. If its deboned you can ration it out better-rather than one or two people wasting some and another wishing they had more. Thats what Im doing with 3 chicken legs tonight-they arent huge but they will serve 4 of us. Prob one or equiv in a curry as I always pad it out-the curries lately though havent seen any meat as Ive cut down on the chicken so I can buy happy more often and other meats as Im trying to reduce red meat. Thinking back to when we were rather poor we were so much healthier! Especialy me! So Im trying to turn thee clock back both dietwise and moneywise without of course going back to being skint. Appleshaped too! But I was a beanstick in a past life!
Annual Grocery budget 2018 is £1500 pa £125 calendar month £28.84 pw for 3 adults

My online order from Mr T is still due to be delivered Wednesday so I won't add that amount to my sig until it's delivered and paid for. I have a relative who works for Mr T so his staff discount will be taken off final amount too . If everything's in stock we should then have enough food in to last until the 19th, and still be well on track with our budget .
Is it a relative who lives with you ? I thought it had to be, although forgive me if I am wrong (it was like this in Coop and Boots, the two shops I have ever worked for!).

Just discovered bread flour is now 48p at tesco (was 45p then 75p) so i'm going to stock up before it goes up again as i use loads (i stocked up from asda a couple of weeks ago as it was 46p and i refused to pay the increase at tesco!

It is still 48p at Lidl (well it was on Saturday) and theirs is just as good. HTH someone. Anyone know what price the Tesco own breadmixes are ? They were 55p then 65p, wonder if they will go back down too as they are a handy stand(y) by! The website 'my supermarket' says 65p still, but is that up to date ?
My local Morrisons is selling the Value brand at 26p a bag.

Oh seeing as the nearest Morrisons is a boat journey and drive away (costing lots of pennies!) I will need to wait until our next trip to the mainland for that (summer more than likely). hth someone else though.

Well in a curry it would be about the same amount of veg as chicken, the veg may be one or a mixture of:- mushrooms, onions, cauli, peas, peppers- whatever else is kicking around really. Tinned toms of course, in many curry recipes. I did make a chicken, lentil and pea (recipe said Okra but as we had none I used peas instead!) curry but the lentils were only just soft (not mushy like in soup) and it was nice, even DH liked it. I don't often use them, but potatoes are also meant to be nice in a curry. A thai curry may have baby corn in and often peppers, and a stir fry can have all manner of veg (tonight was chicken, onion, mushroom, peppers, carrots). If OH not too keen on veg but you don't mind you could always say use 2 instead of 3 breasts, and give him slightly more of chicken at first ? Of course, this is only money saving if you don't use expensive veg (frozen peas are cheap and stretch) and also the added bonus of veg in meals helps 5 a day!
hth and sorry if waffly :o
(PS I used to describe myself as a pear but since having DS I am not sure what shape I am- rest of body actually thinner than pre pregnancy but middle area, esp c-section scar, well I am not sure what to call that bit!).

Just logged on to update my total after my spends in Lidl this morning, only needed Bananas but also bought a bag of Clementines, a tub of Cut Mixed Peel reduced to 29p and 2 Jars of Bisto Roast Beef Gravy Granules, on special at 2 jars for £2.60, also had to give DD1 £2 for Dinner money, luckily she only has School dinners twice a week and takes a Packed Lunch the other 3 days or she would bust my budget!!:p

Had a productive day in the Kitchen again, made a batch of Tomato Sauce, some got put on HM Pizza which I sliced up for the Freezer and DD1 will use in future packed lunches, the remainder of the sauce has gone in the Freezer to be used in something else. Also made a batch of MRSMC's tortilla wraps, some will get used tomorrow for packed lunches.

Dinner tonight was Asda Pork & Apple sausages, (yummy they were too), mash, carrots, green beans and loads of gravy.

Tomorrow nights dinner I'm attempting Jamie Oliver's Turkey & Leek pie, had some Leeks left from the soup I made on Monday and still have sliced Turkey in the Freezer from Xmas Turkey so another meal that is not going to break the Bank.:D

Off now to put my feet up with a nice cuppa - have a good evening everyone.;)
    "WASTE NOT, WANT NOT!"

  • Just updated my signature - I had to go to Asda for a loaf of bread and came out having only bought that one item costing 50p!!! Yeeeeaaaaayyyyy!

Have just spent £4.86 at Tesco, but pleased with myself as managed to talk myself out of one of the quality street tins which were reduced to £2.50 - a bargain (if you needed it), sticking to my budget was a greater incentive, though still not certain I'll make it - I am trying though (honest).
    I'm not a failure if I don't make it, I'm a success because I :tried!
  • Hi everyone!!

I'm well chuffed I just made proper quiche from scratch (including the pastry!) and used up a whole load of stuff that was on its way out (ham dated today, week old eggs, slightly soggy onion and the tiny bit left at the end of 3 different bags of plain flour!). Guess what... it's great!! Slight problem tho - I've eaten two pieces already.. *loosens trousers* xx

How do you do that? My son works for Mr T as well but I've been going shopping with him (a pain because he's 18) because I couldn't work out how to get the discount online

The account has to be in your son's name, with his clubcard number linked to it. The discount should come off automatically when delivered then.

Edit: Have updated my sig now. I know it looks like I've spent a lot so early in the month, but I think we're sorted for food for the next 2 weeks now  .
